Velvet removal question
« on: November 29, 2010, 06:32:18 PM »
I have a good buck I killed back in '03. He was already stripped about 85%. I left it for the character but now I'm thinking I want to strip em clean. What is the best way to do it? I don't want to use a razor blade or scraper since I don't want to damage them. Is there some sort of solution I can spray on them to make it soften enough to easily remove? If its too much of a hassle I'll just leave it. Just curious. I did a search with little results. Thanks!

You may check the archives on Taxidermy.net.  You can usually find just about anything on there (taxidermy related or not...)

Be careful about asking questions over there... they'll scold you pretty well if you haven't checked the archives first.
Nothing witty here.... move along.

Thats easy.  Throw it in a bucket of really warm water.  Give it a day or 2 and it should come right off.

yep what michelle said, just remember when you strip it off, the bone underneath will not be colored so you are going to have to color/stain it.

Make sure you do before and after pics, so we can see how it turns out.
