First pics of an Animal
« on: November 29, 2010, 07:09:42 PM »
Went to check the trail cam.  Finally got a pic of a deer.  Nothing great.  But it is still cool to see something in the area.  Did see tracks in the snow of some elk and prolly a bobcat.

COOL!   Always nice to have some results.    Seems like she is kinda down low in the picture frame, was she just very close to the camera or could the camera be mounted a bit too high or at a bad angle?

Seems like mine works best at betwen 3 & 4 feet up from ground level.   Something short like a bobcat could walk right past it and never set it off if it is to far from the ground or if angled wrong depending on how the ground lays.

Just a thought from my limited bit of experience.   Good luck and looking forward to seeing some more pics.

Also, I see you are using a Primos Truth Cam.   There was an earlier post on here about the camera noise and whether it spooked the game.   Do you have other pics of the deer?   I haven't had any apparent issues with the noise spooking anything, but so far everything has been looking right at the camera when its picture was taken, so it was obvious they could hear it.

Have you noticed anything like that so far with yours?

Thanks, Dennis

congrats on your first pics. i was also going to say that the camera seems to be mounted too high, if she would have been walking with her head down it probably wouldnt have triggered.

Blacktail Sniper, i had my truth cam out over a pile of apples for a few weeks and for the first few days i could definately tell that the deer noticed the camera, they werent spooked by it at all but they were definately curious, they would walk up to the camera and look at it for a few seconds and then go back to eating. but after a few days they didnt seem to notice anymore.

Thanks,  I think I will move the camera to another tree.  I can get a better angle from another tree in the area.  I know there are animals.  It would be real cool to get a cat or even a bull or buck.  But I was pretty happy with the doe.  I will have a good 3 or 4 week soak on this next trip.  It is about a 2 hour drive to get to my location.  It sure makes it fun to plan a trip.
