back from alta
« on: November 30, 2010, 02:45:48 PM »
Well Over all it was an ok hunt.  Not at all what I was expecting.  The big bucks were not down all that low.  Mostly in the timber.  Very few in the open.  I just want to thank all of the land owners in twisp for not giving hardly any access to the state land. :bash: :bash:.  Bunny huggers :bash: :bash:.  I had one good buck that I sat on for over 5 hours on sunday and could not seal the deal before dark.  I held out until day five and shot a dink two point late in the day sunday.  I would put in for the tag again. It was great meeting all of you at antlers.  Thanks for everyone's help for all the info on the unit.

I have done the early archery hunt there for 3 yrs, I have hunted as high as 6500 ft and just outside of town at a friends property. Got my first archery doe this season. Would love it if they had a late archery season in that GMU. The people there are a funny mix, either tree-huggers or hunters, no in between at all! Glad you got a deer!

Sorry to hear that your hunt didn't turn out better.  As for public land in the Alta, there's tons of it, and have never heard that comment before about landowners not letting you into it........

Sorry to hear that, I had that tag last year and was really hoping for good things for this years tag holders.  The fog and a broken down truck were my issues last year, but I loved the hunt.  Good job getting one at the end.

skyval there was a foot to a foot and a half.  HH I don't know how hard you hunted this year but I had a month and a half of hard hunting. Not what I wanted to shoot but in the end it is  Meat in the freezer.  Saw lots of better bucks through all the seasons.  Not the first legal buck I saw for that matter.

Wouldn't a spike have been legal with your permit?

benchleg I had two points and I know jjhunter had two also.  I know oldschool had like 11 and another guy I ran into up there had 10.  It doesn't matter how many points  you have.  It's the luck of the draw.  So I have no idea how I got drawn I am never that lucky.  All in all it was a great hunt and would put in for it again

Yeah a spike would have been legal.  I passed on several legal bucks in the three point or better arena in the regular season and on the permit hunt.  How does that saying go.  You will never shoot a trophy if you shoot one early in a hunt.  I tried that method and obviously didn't work out for me.  I gave her hell until the bitter end.

I think the saying is "you can't shoot the big ones if you shoot the little ones" sorry to hear about your luck but think of it this way, I bet your buck won't fit in my wallet  :dunno:  :chuckle:
