Hey~ I normally do not post on websites because there are so many negative people out there. My brother called me upset today because a friend informed him that people were posting negative things about him on this website. I explained to him that it really does not matter what others think because he was there and knows the truth. Anyone who knows him understands what a true sportsman he is.
Our love for the outdoors started at a very young age packing into Red Mountain on horseback. We never killed anything but truly enjoyed the experience growing up as children. The most import thing was being with family and enjoying the outdoors. Over time we have taken several great bucks. We started taking video to share with friends and family. As people watched our home videos they kept saying, “You need to put a video together because it is better than most of the canned hunts we are seeing on TV.”
All of our hunts are DIY hunts. We truly enjoy the passion of pursuing the largest animals we can harvest with our friends and family. We take our hunting very seriously and give it 110% every time we step in the woods. In fact when my brother spotted the buck below 4 days before the season he did not tell a sole. He knows how many other people are out there looking for bucks for their friends.
The only people that he told about this buck were his dad, brother, and two good friends that were hunting with him. I just need to set the story straight that he did not have 15 gurus running through the mountains looking for him. In fact he did not tell several of his friends because he wanted it to be kept quiet, and did not want to deal with a bunch of people around. Ok~ off my soap box!
After spotting this buck 4 days before the season he could not find him until the 2rd day of the season. He passed several bucks and changed strategies after losing this buck. Instead of hunting low where all the crowds were hanging out he headed up high for one day. Not finding anything he was after he decided to take one more look for this buck.
After looking up high they decided to go back to the general area to see if they could find him. Derek’s good friend ended up seeing the flick of an antler in an area they never expected to see this buck. He was about 2 miles from where he had originally spotted this buck six days ago.
He was able to make a great stalk and put a one shot kill on this buck. Way to go brother!
And…..Yes! It was his wife that took the number nine Washington muzzleloader buck last year. Way to go to both of you. I know how much practice, time, scouting, and miles you put on for both of these bucks. In fact, I do not know anybody that deserves it more. Make sure you enjoy your success
