Ernie, it's a race for him, he has until the quota is filled and with a good snow storm that could be any day now.  He's in the Okanogan area.

All the more reason to stand behind the hound hunters IMHO.

I want hound guys to stand behind me, so I stand behind them when needed.

I live here in Olympia and will be sending an email of concern later today. (Out sick today, great timing...)

Oh man... quota...that sucks Mule... I hope you can get one! If not, you've had some good days out and treed some cats...so that at least will live with ya.

Its too bad more sportsman didn't stand behind the houndsmen in 96'... that was a friggin joke.

WHO owns the dogs WDFW is hunting with? Those hound guys (I assume they aren't owned by the bios) should boycott WDFW.

I will say this though.... in 96 the Popular Vote said, "NO MORE HOUND HUNTING FOR CATS AND BEARS"... and WDFW has made it happen again... just remember that. They have flatly gone against the popular vote and the initiative process. Good For Them.

If all hound hunters said, "nope, we cant help you run and collar cats and Nope, we cant take out that problem lion in town" then things would have to change....

I also wonder who owns the hounds that WDFW uses. ???
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

Not exactly true, and not living here you wouldn't have heard how it came about but suffice it to say this was NOT the WDFW doing, bring the limited cat hunting back.  It was 5 counties basically telling the state either you bring back cat hunting with dogs and solve the MANY cat/human/pet/livestock issues or we will deputize folks and they WILL solve the problem.  It got very heated, lots of pressure from county residents before they came up with public safety removals and that morphed into the program/study we have now.  This is NOT a permanent deal yet....might never be.

Private guys, your always going to find someone who just wants to fun their dogs, they will always have volunteers.  No different than the many Nuisance Wildlife Control guys who do the problem animal trapping.

I forgot to add.. I LOVE the fact that certain rural communites are willing to band together and stick thier thumb in the "Mans" eye... When something isn't right and people are willing to put thier lives, fortunes, and sacred honor on the line.... That is what makes this country great!

My point was, they are still allowing it, even though the popular vote of a bunch of fuggin idiots, BANNED IT...anyhow....

If just for a while, they hound guys could band together and say "Nope... you chase them down with your two feet or buy your own dogs or whatever"....

I used to know a good majority of the hound hunters in the state... is the Hound Council still alive??  I left this prob behind about 13 yrs ago and so did my dad... but now I'm getting all fired up again dam it...

Mulehunter, that's a great story.  But, someone asked for the other side of the story.  Here it is.  First, there were not 5 biologist, only one, the others as you know were houndsmen like Mulehunter, volunteers, and not paid. So, only 1 paid employee.  Second, Mulehunter did turn his dogs out on that cougar, and the biologist, and volunteer left.  He could have pursued that cat but didn't.  I know, we all get worked up when we hear these things, but lets remain calm do the right things, not hurt our selves.  Mulehunter had a great experience in Gods country and knows that.  Only about 5% of the hunters in this state will ever experience that.  Treasure those times.  And remember, that biologist is working for you, so yes you need to comment on what the State does.  But, hostility will not get you anywhere.  His research does determine those quota's.  This is the first time I have been to this site, saw the post, knew I had to comment, registered, made my comment, and that's the truth.  Shoot straight my friends, and yes there is two sides to a story.  My God be with you and take care of you in the field.

LRP i hear what you are saying... Can you give us any insight as to WHY they were doing this work in an open area?

so did he turn on after you guys ran him off and left, how many hours after is what i want to know. and why were you collaring cats when you shouldn't of, far as i know you couldn't of pursued that cat. and why did you not let him run the cat since your not supposed too anyways?

your going to need to answer some Q's, and not just from me i would imagine, if you want people to see your story as credible

So LRP, that's the truth?  What is the truth?  How about you tell us who you are and a little about yourself and why you think or how you know that mulehunter is lying or stretching the "truth" as you are insinuating.  I have heard it from two guys that were there and his version sounds pretty well spot on.  Photos don't lie either.  And PLEASE the bios are working for us, give me a break.  You mean like the bios who planted lynx fur and have lied to us over and over through the years, is that what your referring to when you say they are working for us?
