The 8400 line has both the short action based on the WSM calibers and then the Long Actions. I've handle all the versions, and the Long Actions don't feel "right" in my hands. I much prefer the 84M and the 8400 WSM's. YMMVThe 84M is by far the lightest. Average weight is just a bit over 5lbs. The WSM trip the scale a bit over 6lbs and the Long Actions 6 1/2 to a little over 6 3/4. (references the Montana's)If you don't roll your own, you want/need the lightest weight rifle, and Elk may be on the menu.... the .308 Win makes the most sense to me.
