DOPE!! *censored*ty Good Luck
« on: December 03, 2010, 11:59:03 PM »
On Wednesday I took a day off from work so I can spend a little more time in the woods and hopefully take down an elk :bfg:.  I had a friend who bow hunted and wanted to join me so we found a unit that was open for both of us to hunt.  We met up at 5am and headed south and finally arrived at our hunt location at 6:30am.  We both got geared up and headed out.  Well I noticed that my buddie put his bow case in the bed of my truck, I asked if he wanted to put it in the cab and he did, I then reached over his shoulder and used the passenger side door panel to lock the doors .  About 40 yards later I stop and realized that I did not have my keys :bash:.

Not wanting to over worry about it, and knowing that there was absolutely nothing I could do about it at the moment, we just hunted.  We walked and tracked and walked some more for three hours then decided to return to my truck and go else wear.  I dreaded my walk back to the truck for I just knew that my keys would be in the ignition with all the doors lock.  Sure enough there were my keys in the ignition;  I check the passenger’s side door first, the passenger rear door and driver’s rear door.  All were locked! :violent1:

I started to jam my hunting knife into the rear passenger door hoping I could “jimmy” it open when Paul said “James, I think the driver’s door is unlock!” :o I quickly went and check and sure enough it was.  I thought I could not be more excited that my driver’s door has electrical issues. :whoo:

The two of us then decided to hunt another area.  Once we got there I parked my truck we again geared up, I grabbed my GPS out of my tuck and not yet wearing my vest I clipped my GPS to my hip pocket :bdid: with every intent to move it to my vest pocked after I put it on.  We then proceeded to hike 2 miles up and down hills until we got to the third ridge line from where I parked…again two miles.  I went to pull my GPS to show Paul where we were and where we were going. :ACRY:  I panicked when I realized that my GPS was not clipped to my vest as the norm for me, wondering if I even grabbed my GPS I thought about what I did with it and realized that I never moved my GPS from being clipped to my hip pocked to my vest, I ran my hand to my hip pocket and found the GPS clip…in horror I realized that I had lost my GPS! :bash: :bash:  I gave Paul the basic layout of our current location and told him I was going on a scavenger hunt to find it.  He was also socked that I lost it and we parted ways.

I retraced my steps precisely for the two miles we hiked in, and it’s not easy recalling your every step in reverse!  The closer and closer I got to my truck, the more I was in terror of it being gone forever.  :'( As I was within about a quarter mile of my tuck on the main road, another hunter was walking up the trail.  In passing he asked how I was doing and I responded “horrible! I lost my GPS! You wouldn’t by chance have run across one lying around have you?”  At that moment my fellow hunter pulled a GPS out of his pocket and asked “did it look like this?”  :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: I was so relived and ecstatic at the same time, I just about hugged him!!   :whoo:

I figured if anyone needed a good laugh I could help provide one :chuckle:.  God was looking over me this day and wanted for me to come home without a broken window :chuckle:, and gave me a honest hunter who was kind enough to pick up my GPS off the ground and then return it to me when I asked him about it. As I stated, This was my *censored*ty day of good luck!! :chuckle: :IBCOOL:

I have had this suburban for over 10 years.  For the first time last year many miles removed in the forest of N. Idaho I locked the keys in the vehicle, 10 years ago I put one of those magnetic hide a key boxes on the frame rail and had not seen it since.  i will be damned if it was still there and was able to unlock the vehicle.
It's a TIKKA thing..., you may not understand.

Must be a Ford, the older Ford's always seemed to have sticky actuators where the door wouldn't lock or unlock completely, the knob just moved a little.  Count your blessings twice in one day!

It's a Chevy actually.  My buddie worked on my door panel last year and it has never been the same.  The one time I was actually glad that it has been bugging out on me.  I even went out and bought a lotto ticket that day I was so lucky.  I plan on getting another key copied and in the mean wile, I lock tighten my GPS!

Good tip with the electrical tape!  I'll do that if I decide to go with the hide away box!
