good run with the beagles
«
on:
December 05, 2010, 06:39:53 PM »
Went out this morning with one of my cousins up in the Yakima Valley.Shot a couple coyotes while driving around from rabbit hole to rabbit hole. Not much luck in those spots. Then went out to my honey hole and it was on. Dogs going crazy rabbits all over the place ended up with seven and a couple quail the dogs kicked up.

Is that legal???
I was totally pissed when i found out i can no longer have my Cattahoula with me while coyote calling . This state is really going against the dogs ( pun intended) .

Kain I take them out usually once a week sometimes more
I normally forget to take pictures to post
I pretty much only hunt the rabbits anymore cause we have such a hard time finding pheasants in the valley anymore that and my two boys love listening to the dogs and watching the rabbits run

Nice job on the rabbits. I used to train beagles as a kid for extra spending money. What a blast!!

Beagles are great - nice job with those rabbits. My dad used to run beagles and my first dog was a beagle named Ginger. I was too young to run them, though, and never got the chance to go out. It looks like a blast.
I think you're fine on the 'yotes since you were going from place to place when you shot them and, most likely, your dogs were in the pickup. I've had the same thought, though, when I've had my dog with me and I was in places where bears live (in season, of course.) Do I shoot one if I can leave the dog in the truck (it's a lab, hopefully no one would think that I would run a bear with her)? On the other hand, I don't want my dog getting any funny ideas about chasing bears if I do shoot one and bring it back to the truck. So, I've decided that I won't shoot a bear with my dog around, even if she stays in the truck. I also don't want any misunderstandings with any game wardens, either.
It does kind of suck that I have to think about that, especially since there is no way that I would allow my dog to chase a bear (or deer, elk, coyotes or anything else outside of birds.)

This is a subject that really get me fired up.. BTW great pics and I've always wanted to hunt rabbits behind beagles... ITS A FRIGGIN COYOTE! This isn't a big game animal that needs management... ITS A SCAVENGER! I don't think you can kill enough coyotes to make a big dent in the population... If you kill a bunch off, they just have bigger litters.. If they compete for turf and food they have smaller litters.. Its a replenishing supply... You could tell me you did something like having a dog or some other BS rule that you broke and All I'd ask is how many did you kill? Then give you a hard time for not killing more or shooting straighter...The WDFW is scared of its own shadow and wants to protect itself from Bunny huggers.
Kill em all, let God sort em out! They are just chicken thief's not some majestic animal or real source of revenue!

OK, so we all see the dog box in the back of the truck? when the coyotes were shot the dogs were in the box in the back of the truck in the canopy that is on the truck with the hatch down so. My thoughts ( probably not using the dogs to chase the coyotes and or not using them to decoy the coyotes unless them damn coyotes have X-RAY vision.) just something you serious coyote hunters have to worry about.

Beagledog - I didn't mean to imply at all that you had done anything wrong. Sorry if it came out that way.
Anyway, the important thing was a successful hunt and a cool experience. Congratulations again on the fine hunt!

Halflife65
That was not directed to you.
It just concerns me that it seems like any time some one post something on here, someone has to bring up some kind of a legality or try to make someone feel like they did something wrong when all they are doing is trying to share their good luck.
Just kind of upsetting.

Nah, I really didn't take it that way. I just wanted to cut off any talk about you doing something wrong.
It doesn't always work this way, but if someone decides to post something negative it seems like sometimes people just pile on. Just keep it positive.
