The Weekend was SLOW For Us In Quincy
« on: December 06, 2010, 10:19:49 AM »
Hunted the weekend in Quincy for geese, was the slowest 2 days I have ever had. Saturday we had a few come by and give a look and then they caught the wind and kept on going. Finally 2 lesser's dropped in and that was it for the morning and early afternoon. Sunday was even worse, we set up ahead of the field that all of the birds were using. They wouldn't even look, just a straight line to the field with all of the their buddies. Lots of birds in 3 fields that we coudn't get permission to hunt.  :bash:

Stubborn wasn't even the word for these geese, they had a spot in mind and they were not going to take any detours. Did have a huge honker right over the decoys we should have taken. He had 2 buddies right behind him and we tried to get all 3, but just couldn't get the other 2 in. When they bugged out, the big guy just followed right along.

What’s that old saying “a bird in range is worth 2 out of range”, something like that.

At least you got out and had a go at them.

The 2 that did come in on a string that hit the ground had to be the 2 smallest lessers I have seen. I think I have shot Northern Mallards that were bigger. They must have been the young and dumb ones.   :chuckle:
