Rossi single shot 12GA shotgun
« on: December 06, 2010, 04:17:04 PM »
I have a Rossi single shot 12 GA shotgun that I want to configure for my grandson. I'm going to shorten the butt stock a bit and attach a Pachmayer recoil pad. He's taking the Hunter Education course and I want to take him Turkey hunting with me in April. However, it isn't threaded for a choke. Any suggestions for getting it threaded so it will accept a turkey choke?

ive had briley thread a couple fixed choke barrels for me, cant remember the cost, quick turn around.  but id definitely have at the least a competent shotgun smith do it, not sure if smaller smith operations have the tools to do it. but for commercial tubes id recommend briley

There is no choke and no threads. Wide open! I didn't measure the opening but it looks large.

My guess is it’s a fixed Modified choke.  Unless it was designed to be a slug shooter or has been cut off it would have a fixed choke and Mod is the most popular.  While not the best choice for turkey, a Mod choke will work.  In any event you will probably spend more to modify the gun than it would cost to buy a new single shot more suited to youth turkey hunting.

Like CP said, easier to buy a new one.  Why not pattern it to see what it will do and then just keep within that range for the kid.  The closer they are on the trigger pull the more exciting it is!  I talked to a guy once that only used a .410 and never took a shot farther than 15 yards, he tagged out every year.

I think you guys are right. I'll pattern the gun and see how wide the pattern is. Then we will just plan on getting real close to that turkey. Thanks.
