Best coyote calls
« on: December 06, 2010, 08:16:13 PM »
Im fairly new to yote hunting and was wondering what are the best calls on the market today, which call do you use the most and which one is most effictive, Just want to get 1 or 2 to start off with. i already have the primos double cottontail. I know most people use electronic calls but i just dont have the money for one right now.

You definitely don't need E-calls. And the short answer to the best call for coyotes. Is the one in your hand. Just about anything will call a coyote in. Worry more about your set up. And call with confidence.

I would go with a good quality loud howler for one, as a locator and attractor.  Then a Primos "Raspy Croaker" is a good versatile call that can make prey distress calls or rodent squeaks, depending on what holes in the call you cover when it's blown.  E-callers are great, but a few hand calls and some practice wiil get you in the game.  And no worries about batteries going dead!
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

Hand calls:

Bugling Bull Game calls

Dirty Dog howler
yipper yapper howler
Select-A-Meal distress or
Distemper open reed distress

All are easy to use and are top quality sounds for production calls. :twocents:

If Eric Clapton played your Kmart guitar it would sound better than you playing your Les Paul/Strat whizbang custom!
I think any call will call, but you gotta learn how to play it, and some play easier than others. With any of them you must practice. Listen to all the sound bytes you can, that said. I call different than Rick, who calls different than Jerry Malbeck, etc, we all kill coyotes. There aint no "right" sound.
Do your self a favor, get one of bearmanrics sets to start with.
if ya gotta go factory, get some internal reed "who cares" brand, forget Howling until you know what you are doing, go all predator bait sounds.

I also use sceery brand rabbit distress which has been a very productive call for me. Good luck

ill throw another vote out there for RR calls from bearmanric, ive got a pair of his calls and love them called in a bunch of yotes last year with them his smaller open reed call out performs my primos kiyi everyday of the week and can make a ton more sounds, i honestly doubt youll find a better pair of calls for $35, ive also got a les johnson ruffidawg jr. that i like its got a different sound to it than the RR's

I learned to call without any coaching or listening to recorded calls. I just learned by mistakes. Nobody helped me, just the real calls of each varmint.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

Got a Fox pro Scorpion for my birthday this year. I think my wife bought it to get me out of the house more. I'm good with that. I'm going to sight in the .243 with a new scope this weekend. I've worked up some loads for it too.   :)
