Space Efficient Elk Mount....????????
« on: December 07, 2010, 07:51:48 AM »
Well, I'm glad to say that this 375+ bull I corked this year does not have a space efficient RACK... But... that is also becoming a problem. I do NOT have a high ceiling area in my house... What is the best way to mount one of these big bulls that doesn't just look TACKY hanging on the wall? I am almost thinking a pedestal mount that can slide into a corner.... I dont know....Any ideas...?? Pics Welcome!

Just add an addition to your house :chuckle:. Or send him to me I have a vaulted ceiling. He would look great over my fireplace.

I personally think the pedestal mounts look better on the truly huge bulls, like the one you killed this year.  I think you get a better first person look at just how giant they truly are, and they work really well in a house with normal height ceilings.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.

Pedestal mount is probably the best idea, other than dedicating a new room to it.  Be sure to have the pedestal made into a cabinet if you do that, that way you get some extra storage as well.  My dad did one with two Mexican muleys on it but the base doesn't open so lost that potential space.

Good luck.  Whatever you do I am sure you will enjoy your new addition.

sneak or bugle get you the clearance that you need for the celing, but then stick out the length of the shoulder mount.  Maybe a full turn bugle will save you some depth.  My cousin mounted a 300 bull in a bugle at a semi turn in the corner of his house and then put a couch in the corner at a 45 degree angle, which gave him the necessary room.  of course you have the added problem of another 70+ inches of antler.  Pedestals are more money, but give you som added room you are looking for.

Bottom line.  Bull Elk and Bull Moose take up a lot of space.

A bonus to your bull Ernie is that is has some seriouse long hair and main . That will make your bulls mount ppop even that much more! Im betting it has a 8 inch main or so and thick. I dont see that many capes with super good hair in washington. Maybee 1 - 2 a year.

If the wife is not happy then no one is happy!!!!  Just freeze the cape it will last for a while and decide after the holidays, when times are less stressful  :)
