A pudelpointer, not the best looking dogs (though some people would strongly disagree) but they are one of the most versatile gun dog breeds you can get your hands on. They win a lot of the versatility competitions. They are great upland game dogs with natural pointing and retrieving instincts, they generally love water and retrieving in water (can't hand the freezing water as well as a lab) and they have stamina to go all day. I know a lot of guys are using them for sheds over labs due to that stamina. There are several top breeders here in the NW; a couple in Oregon and one in Idaho that I know of for sure.

The breed is out of Germany and it's history spans back well over 100 years (before more popular breeds like the German Wirehair). They shed very little and are hypoallergenic.

Woah dude, now we're talking! I almost died from a dog dander induced asthma attack when I was five. Haven't had much of a love for dogs since.

Can they track cougars, too? You may have just sold me a dog

Even hypoallergenic dogs can bring that out allergies in some people so I would be careful.

I know German Wirehaired Pointers/Drahthaar (another versatile dog) have been used for Mt. Lions. They are a cross between a German Shorthair Pointer and a Pudelpointer. I have heard of people using them for sheds also.

I have never personally owned a Pudelpoiner but know several people that have and they are by far some of the best dogs I have ever seen. I will definitely own one some day when I have more time. I already don't have enough time for my Lab's.

I have no doubt a pudelpointer could be trained as a multi-purpose dog to hunt upland game, cougar and sheds.

 I don't doubt it... I hear Draht's are great dogs on par with the Pudelpointer.
