OK, I've never done it. Not many porkys here. I have however watched a few guys give demos on it though. The guard hair is pulled out by hand, needs to be straightened and only the long guard hair is saleable. They also buy the quills and it is pulled also but you cannot crush the quill or it is worthless. There also some who will buy the hide stretched and dried. I think Moscow hide and Fur does this but you would be better to check. I've been told an average porky is worth about $20.

Yes, very carefully with a cut up the belly.  Don't try to eat the meat in the winter unless you are starving!  They have been eating evergreens.  When you cook them the house smells like there's about 50 Christmas trees weeping sap in your house,  the taste is even worse.  I don't know about a summer porkey.

We tried eating porky when I was a kid, it was greasy and gross tasting, sell the hair and quills, use the rest for coyote bait.
