shoot the top one first then focus on the second. I figure taking the further one would leave me a chance to get the closer one while he is still in range.

that would depend on why you are hunting them. if hunting for furs it would be the bigger top one. if hunting to reduce the population, then the smaller bottom one hopeing it is the female. if just for fun, then the top one just because hes bigger.

I picked the top one because it looked as if the fur is better.  The bottom had more color though.

Top on on the shoulder, clean up the bottom one next.

Beauty of a top dog.  Bottom dog definitely has "color" but in yotes, the color red is usually bad.

Top one first, then get the second one while still in range.

I almost always take the furthest first, hoping for more of a chance at the nearer one, but these two are fairly close so it would be a toss up.  Back yote is a little larger and looks to have a better coat so it would take the first bullet regardless.  Of course the way I have been shooting lately they are both pretty safe unless someone will make me a deal on a mortar launcher  :chuckle:

Bottom one for me too. Take the closest/better odds shot first. If you take the higher shot, you may lose sight of the lower and lose any chance of a second kill...(in theory) (my theory not yours...)  Be ready for the screaming wounded doggy call and see if you can stop the top dog for a second shot... top yote gets my first shot. I think it'd be easier to find the red one once it moves, Red isn't as good for camo. Also the red one is looking at me and may stick around longer.  :twocents:

Top dog gets my first shot, mostly cuz he's bigger, make a better fur on the wall.  I've never been lucky when shooting at two dogs of getting a second shot.  Done very little calling myself, so it's been mostly a luck thing to find two dogs and have them standing still.  Usually the second one is running like his tail is on fire after I shoot the first one.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.

if their both looking at you, take the top dog first.  The lower dog won't see the top dog get hit and won't know what happened and which way to run.  Hit the lower dog first, and the top dog will see exactly what happened because he was looking that way and could see the lower dog get hit.

Same thing with shooting birds; hit the back ones first.  hit the front ones first and the whole flock scatters.  hit the back ones first, and the ones in the front don't even know whats going on.

I like the coat of the front one, so I'd shoot that one first.  The top one looks bigger but I'm all for coat color and my nieghbor want a pelt.  If I get another shot, bonus.

Take the closest one first because that should be the easiest shot. You need to focus on killing one before worrying about killing two.

Bottom one.  Recoil should put me right on the top one if he hesitates even half a second.  If not at least I have got a cool loking pelt.

I would shoot the top one first because his attention seems focused more forward. Look at his ears. The bottom one is listening for the yote behind (her). When she hears the shot she might pause a second or look away to see what happened behind her and give a shot for the double.

looks good on paper  ;)

Since I'm using a shotgun and they are within 20 yards, I'll smoke the top dog first and then smack the second one in the hind end before it gets out of range.   ;)

I need the biggest target I can get. :chuckle:

That's what I was thinking!  :chuckle:  Or the one that hold still longer than .3 seconds as coyote's never seem to.

I've missed plenty of yote's and I swear I must have parted the hair on their belly.  Bigger target get's my vote.
