Cousin's first deer
«

So it has been a long season this year. Not complaining
. With not having much time to hunt this year. during the regular season he did not have a opportunity to harvest a deer. So my cousin and I went down to the williams creek unit thursday night. My expectations were not that high for that unit. As I have hunted it in the past. I let him know on the way down not to expect to much. First thing on friday morning we were headed to an area I wanted to hunt. My cousin yells "Deer". He was able to get out of the truck. I am watching the deer and it seemed like forever. I am thinking to myself Is he going to pull the trigger or what. The doe moves off a bit. Now I am thinking she is going to blast out of here any second. "BOOM" The doe rolls down the hill into the ditch. Done holy crap that was fast. That was the first time I have been around a youth when they harvested there first deer. What a feeling. I asked him why he didn't pull the trigger sooner. He said I got shakey and excited. I said thats why we hunt. I had to congradulate him on taking his time and waiting until he calmed down. I still have that problem sometimes. Great job for a first time hunter. I am a proud cousin. Good job Kyler!!!

Yeah went over to say hi for a minuite on my way out of town. The minuite turned out to be over an hour. It was good to see your mom too. Had a good time.

let me know I will go with ya. The guy I put them onto doesn't rent the big mountain sleds. But they are good enough to rally around on. I think he only rents like 500's.

yeah trav and kari are supposed to come over some time after the first of the years too. Maybe you guys could coordinate and all make it over together. We got 16 inches of snow yesterday. Took over 5 hours to get home. Damn westside drivers need to stay home when we get snow like that.

I was 5 minuites from my buddies house. I like to hang them up when I gut them. If I can. Way easier lot less mess. I picked that method up in north carolina when I guided at a hunting lodge.

Both my deer and Mike's deer where still twitching a little when we got up to them. I'm sure it was just nerves but I always feel better when they don't do that. So we put one right at the base of the neck. Sever the spinal column and they stop twitching. It's always a cool feeling being there for someone's first deer. To see the excitement in their face. Good times. Glad you guy's found something down there. How far of a shot was it?

It was more than nerves. I usually just let them expire if it is the nerves no need to waste a bullet. She was kicking around pretty good. Hit her a bit high.

Nice Job!! Way to get it done....
Teanawayslayer -
I hunted 673 williams creek this last weekend also. Shot and missed two seperate times at big doe's. Realized my gun was off low and to the right. Finally got my gun on paper and made adjustments. Too bad i couldn't find a deer on Sunday in the 30+ mph winds and rain....Tag chowda for me.....
