Loooong trip
«
on:
December 12, 2010, 06:08:35 PM »
Whew, I'm wore out. Left yesterday at 0730 and did a 1600 mile round trip to Northern CA and back to pick up a new lion/bear pup. He's an 18 month old Leopard Cur. I'll post some photos in the next couple of days. Man I hit some really heavy heavy rain just before Cascade Lock all the way down past Albany.

It's a cur, not a hound!
It's not a catahoula, it's an American Leopard Cur.
Not too offend anyone, but and this is just my opinion, catahoula leopard curs and American Leopard curs are like comparing blue heeler to blueticks. One is a stock dog and one is a track and tree dog. I know in the SE US lots of guys use them for hogs and some can track game, but "generally" they have medium to hot noses, can be a bit alligatorish with other dogs, escpecialy with game, don't generally have strong treeing instincts. The line of Leopard curs I run do everything my blueticks used to do, but handle much better. I like them, but they are not for everyone. Again, no offense to anyone who like the catahoulas.

That wasn't directed at you, discussing different breeds of dog are almost as bad as discussing which truck is better, religion or politics. It can create some amazingly heated discussions. I did not want to offend any catahoulas supporters is all.

Re: Loooong trip/American Leopard Hound Becomes UKC's 7th Coonhound Breed

Come on now, lets get it right
http://www.ukcdogs.com/WebSite.nsf/News/AmericanLeopardHoundBecomes04222008102024AM
Effective May 1, 2008, the Leopard Cur will become the American Leopard Hound. They will be eligible to compete in all UKC licensed coonhound events provided they have American Leopard Hound papers or Easy Entry Card. All previously earned points and titles will transfer with the dog. There are just a handful of them that have titles and out of respect for those hunters and the dogs that earned them, they will remain with the dog. There will likely be a set period of time for Leopards not currently registered with UKC to be brought into the registry as American Leopard Hounds under the rules and fee structure previously used for Leopard Curs.

Actually I do NOT own any HOUNDS, I wouldn't buy a UKC Leopard hound if it was a nickel. I own and hunt American Leopard Cur (ALCBA) registered dogs. UKC is all about making money off of registry and litter registrations. In my not so humble opinion UKC doesn't have ANY regard for breeding or improving the breed of a line of dogs. The ALCBA which stands for American Leopard Cur Breeders Association split two years ago. The reason for the split is lots of folks back east wanted to compete in the UKC nite hunts however UKC would not allow anything other than coonhounds to compete. Also UKC saw dollar signs so they made the UKC Leopard Hound. Here's the problem with it. They were NEVER hounds. Never have been and NEVER will be, however now you have lots of dogs that should NEVER have been bred being bred and producing puppies that should have been culled. In the ALCBA your dog has to show three people/witnesses, one of which must be a ALCBA member, that is can track and tree it's own game before it can be permanently registered or reproduce. That ensures only good hunting dogs are registered and reproduce. UKC doesn't have a care in the world how the parents hunt or if they are worth a dang or if they even meet the breed standard. Just send that money in with the registration application. Worst thing that even happen to those dogs. I own Leopard Curs, Not hounds.
