A big, huge YES.  I think it would be a great option for hunting.  I even have a couple spears ready for the task.  Let them be used for all the animals...bear, cougar, deer, elk.

I'm not sure. I know frog gigging was fun but not sure about bear gigging.

Yes, yes, hell yes, and abso-freakin-loutly.

Being the discriminating sportsman that I am I would have some reservations on how I would like to spear an animal. After watching some videos of spear hunting I have come to the conclusion that I would not use a tree stand, bait station, or high fence. Not that I would use a bait station or high fence anyways but that seems to be the general theme in all of the spear hunting videos that I have seen. Spot and stalk only from the ground. Also many of the spears that I have seen have been extremely long, like still holding the spear while it penetrates a bear from 20ft above in a tree stand. No pole vaulting sticks. I would have to limit mine to my height or less. I would assume (without much knowledge) that a guy could become proficient enough to accurately throw a spear out to 15-20 yards. Which should be enough distance for a person in decent shape to turn, run and scream like a little girl before being overtaken.

I am not sure if I would start my spear hunting career on a bear however. Starting with a deer, then elk, then bear, then moose, then cougar would be the order I would prescribe. You have to work up to such levels of manliness, it doesn't just come over a person all of a sudden. Of course any man that stands toe to toe with a moose or cougar and hucks a homemade stick at it will instantly be immortalized as the toughest man alive. Something to strive for anyways. If someone were to beat me to this feat I would inevitably be forced to go into the woods unarmed and return several years later wearing the hides of wolves and grizzlies that I had taken with my bare hands.

I need to go to bed, I don't even belive the crap I type anymore. Seriously, I would try spear hunting but I am certain I would eat my tag as I am not nearly proficient enough to spear an animal.

I WOULD LIKE TO TRY.... BUT NOT A BEAR,  A DEER, OR PIG MAYBE,....  HECK I'VE NEVER EVEN SEEN A BEAR IN WASHINGTON,    :'(
you haven't looked very had have you.

i have,.. seriously,  i have,  i seen bears in idaho, and montana,.. none in washington

Come spend a few days with me next opener, You'll have to wear a blindfold to my area  but after that I will 100% guarantee you will see a bear or 10. I probably saw 50 this year just hesistated a few times and passed on a bunch only to have them up and dissapear on me..  TAG SOUP..
~  ~One of my favorite clothing patterns is camouflage. Because when you're in the woods it makes you blend in. But when you're not it does just the opposite. It's like "hey, there's an *censored*."”

Be come one with Nature......... Then Marinade it.

One moment you're flying south for the winter, then - BANG - gravy.

I dont think I would try it for bears.  I dont think I would have a problem with others doing it though as long as they were hand held spears and not throwing them.

not sure about that one for hogs.. but the bear one i watched was very planned out and successful. the guy was on a stump and about 10 feet from where he stuck the bear.the spear was a solid bar (so it had plenty of mass behind it to get good penetration) with a very sharp and special end that put the bear down fast. the only one that i think was smart was the camera guy in a tree stand... LOL  :chuckle:

Not nearly as nasty as you would think.  Those guys run those pigs not stop with the jeep.  As you probably know pigs can not sweat and so get very over heated.  They then set up ambush at the only water hole.  The pigs are about run to death and are taking a last stand because they cant run anymore.

listen jack you must be nuts i saw a video once or twice it had a nut job on a stump in a gillie suit holding a spear, bear came in and he stuck it. was just crazy, bear did not go far, was a great video. would not advise this to a sane person.  guy must have smelled pretty sweet though, kinda like a jelly roll or a sweet bun. it was real close think it sniffed his boot. i think it would make a nice change to the regs.
