Good grief!  I'm not trying to be any kind of hero and I laid off posting this for a long time.  However, as this thread started to grow, I thought I'd just throw it out there that it IS illegal to remove any steelhead that you intend to release from the water.  I'm not nit picking or being, as you say, a hero.  It is simply illegal to remove steelhead from the water.  If anyone is offended by that, including you, cohoho, too bad!

Yes, those are "freaking nice fish", but they should remain in the water for picture taking and carefully released.  Salmonslayer1 is obviously an accomplished fisherman and not new to the game.  He should know better.

If you think I'm the police then you haven't visited Bob Ball's fishing site.  Those guys are brutal and would tear you up over pics like these.  Check it out for yourself...

If those fish were caught in Oregon, then I apologize.  This IS a Hunting Washington web site and I think it's reasonable for people like me to assume they were caught here in Washington.  Since you are aware of this Washington law maybe you should have noted that the fish were caught in Oregon.  I'm sure a few other members of this board also believed these fish were caught in Washington and maybe they weren't aware of the law.  That's the main reason I posted it word for word.  So that others knew it was illegal to totally remove steelhead intended for release from the water.

as for you 87 are you one of those guys who pay a guide to take you sidedrifting with bait and hook tons of smolt?

If it makes you feel better to insult me that's okay.  I won't even get into my steelhead fishing experience.

Anyway, I do apologize for insinuating that you had illegally removed those fish from the water.

This is why I won't post pics on the internet. The experts always have
something to say.

Well you what they say about assumptions?????  Every one is so quick to start questioning a person ethics and why they did this or why they did that without first asking first.  This has been a good site and will continue to be as long as the attitudes from some of the other sites don't carry over...  Last year forget who, but they started bashing about why a pic was covering the fin, finally after about three slams and how it was wrong they open the picture to full size and low and behold no fin.  Wow!

I'm torn here on how to feel because of a few reasons. One, I feel that a fish that is held in the water until the moment of the picture and is simply lifted up for 2 seconds for a photo is fine. Two, not removing them from the water is better. Three, it IS illegal in the state of Washington to remove them from the water. But mainly, I worry for the people that post those pictures. The game department monitors these websites guys and they look for pictures like that. They WILL track you down and they WILL write you a ticket for that if they can prove that you did that in Washington. I love seeing pictures of big steel so I don't want people to stop taking pictures or posting them on here, just make sure they are legal pictures! That will keep all of the internet police and heroes off your back and, more importantly, will protect you! Now go bust some steel and let us see some good pics.
I hunt, therefore I am.... I fish, therefore I lie.
