Good Hog Hunting

[Practical Approach]

I know in states such as California and Texas hogs can be a problem for ranchers.  My question is, has anyone been hunting for hogs and know of a fun semi cheap hunt. It doesn't matter which state, just looking for some ham and bacon in the freezer.

May want to look into Texas. Lots of year round "off season" opputurnity. Some ranches/outfitters will charge you room and board with $1 a hog fee.

There is a place in southern Idaho that has a european boar hunt.  I did it twice with a bow.  If you are interested send me a PM and I'll get the info for ya.

You might try Clover creek ranch in central Oregon.  It's a high fence ranch but it's around 2500 acres of fairly rough country, and I never felt the animals were inhibited from getting away from me by the fence.  They have feral hogs and used to have some true russions as well.  Kind of open high desert sort of country, so would have been a simple thing to whack the hogs with a rifle, but bow hunting it was not a slam dunk.  Some guys in our party actually didn't get hogs, so it wasn't easy, at least the time I was there, probably 1998 or so.  The meat was excellent and we had a great time.  Fairly inexpensive, I think I paid around $300 and the hog I killed weighed around 350 live weight, my cousin killed one a bit bigger for the same price.

Tejon Ranch in Souther California has excellent pig hunting. They have a do-it-yourself hunt for 3 days for $450 or $500. I have done this twice. First boar was 285 lbs with 3.5" cutters and the second was 197 lbs with 2.75" cutters....

Pretty good place. I have never been, but know about 10 people that have been there. They have some red tagged animals that are pretty cheap to hunt. Washington and Oregon, changed a lot of there laws. About what animals can be had in hunting preserves. The pigs are feral pigs now. The Russians are not legal here or there anymore. The nice thing about a preserve is there is no added tags to pay for. The only thing I have been told about that place that was not great. Is the extra charges like skinning, they have a after dark fee and larger animal fee, or something like that. I would look into it more.

If you are looking for a super high quality hog hunt. I have several outfitters that i can book for in Cali. The thing you have to remember, is you have to buy a hog tag and license down there. Which is several hundred dollars, and most the hunts there run from 600.00-1200. Let me know if you are intrested.

If I were you I'd get on the phone with Carpsniperg2 about his outfitter in CA that he books hunts for. They are huge hogs and are affordable IMO. Sounds like a blast for sure!
