Havalon Knives

Anybody use the havalon knives got these on my xmas list

Used one the first time this year.  Figured it would be good for skinning out a head, in tight spots.  I used it to skin my wife's deer, it was getting dull by time I was done skinning it.  They are extremely sharp though, with a new blade.  Amazingly sharp.  They are light as well.

I will probably stick with my old folding buck knife, easy to sharpen if needed, and feels more durable.  Changing the blades on the Havalon is a little difficult, so that might push me into keeping the buck knife.  I'll use the Havalon on the next few animals I get and then do a report for this site. 

On a side note, I wonder can you sharpen the havalon's surgical steel if needed?

i have one and its a great knife. real light weight and was able to skin almost a whole elk with one blade. blades are easy to change once you get the hang of it. i use this knife and a buck and able to break down a bull elk without sharpening a blade once. i use the buck for the heavier duty stuff like seperating the knees and neck and what not and the havalon for everything else. would highly recommend it. the blades are kind of flimsy though and no good for twisting and prying, they will break.

I love mine, did not get to use it on big game this year great on birds. My bud in Montana used three blades and did 7 B tag deer with his.

why did it take him three blades, did he break a couple trying to get the sockets loose or what, should be able to get a deer with one or two.

I have one and love it, used it a lot on deer, no sharping when dressing game on late night returns to camp. i hate sharping knives.

THese knives are the ticket.  I have used mine on three elk and four deer.  They are fantastic...

Got one for christmas and love it, havent used it on game yet but it cuts flesh with ease. Dont use your thumb to wipe the side of the blade. I know i'm a dumb ass some of us have to learn the hard way.

Cabela's had some on sale not too long ago.  I should have picked one up to give it a try.
