Elk Calling Help!!
« on: December 19, 2010, 06:28:37 PM »
Okay so traditionally the rut in Alabama starts about two months later than it does in Washington.  So the rut here should be in full swing.  Here's my problem I've been hitting the food plots pretty hard.  I've got all of my Biologic all planted out and fully grown.  I've been calling pretty hard and havn't got a single elk to answer back.  I've tried everything.  Ive tried locators and cow in estrus and even drove up and down a dirt road in my Bad-Boy Buggy doing a lost cow call with no effect.  I'm at wits end.  I havn't gotten a single response yet.  The elk are not pressured because i'm the only one calling for the elk here in Alabama.  I know they can't smell me because I have head to toe scent-lok, I wash my body in scent-lok, I wipe my butt with scent-lok and I chew scent-lok brand tobacco.  I use a Bad Boy Buggy so I go in and out to my tree-house super quiet.  So what am I doing wrong.  Should I switch calls.  Is that it.  I know it can't be me.  Anyways if anyone has any advice on how to call in those big Alabama bulls I'd really like the free advice.  It has to be free because i'm super cheap and I refuse to pay for it.  Thank you all.  This is what this site is about.  Me getting free advice from you all and rarely if ever giving anything back in return.

I'm not trying to be funny but how many elk are there in Alabama?  Are you seeing them around?  If so be patient.  I'm not an expert elk hunter or anything.

my guess is you are using that damn southern twang call. elk are smarter then alabamans.....they eat bark and brush. I suggest getting that bb buggy in for an "ole change" and try some deer-caine, but make bigger piles. that will get you where you need to be.

glad I could solve that one for yous

Ribka hey I know Cletus.  He lies just down the trailer court from me.  He has the nicest trailer in the court.  I didn't know he was the elk expert down here.  I'll have to ask him about it.  As far as those elk hounds.  Where can I find some to use.  Can I use yours.

50caljim.  Okay I  bought my self a hoochie mamma.  The only problem is that I'm having trouble figuring out how to use the thing.  Man it is a complecated call.  Can you explain how to use it.

Thanks for the hot tips Buckrub.  Ill try the bottle of elk piss.  So am I supposed to brush my teeth with it.  Or rinse my face with it?  And also you said the scent concealer doesn't work but I'm having a hard time believing that my Scent-lok chewing tobacco isn't helping out at all.

How did I miss this thread....!

Colockumelk asking for help calling elk?  Sarcasm up the wazoo!  This thread has it all!

Seriously though, can't you do us all a favor and find a hunting forum to join down in Alabama?  It doesn't have to be permanent...as soon as King county starts voting Republican you can come back to Hunt WA...I promise.

I did join a forum but I was quickly kicked off.  Apparantly people down here get pissed off when you spell words correctly and use complete sentances.    :dunno:  Who knew it was a crime down here.

I heard from walking eagle you can call them with a truck horn, but you have to do it at night. it must work good, he had 43 in the back of his caddy. he did say not to throw beer bottles at them though, that makes em run and it is hard to stay on them with the spot light.

make sure to drink plenty of firewater while you are hunting to keep you warm on those cold 'Bama nights!
