Back in the mid 80s (1980's) a good friend of mine drove loggin' truck out of Snoqualmie when they were logging high up behind the watershed. He and several other drivers said they would hear wolves howling just after dark. Heard them in the same area most times. One of the drivers claimed he saw a couple out in a clearcut one winter, looked like they were feeding on something.

In the mid 80's I twice saw a lone wolf during the daylight and once heard a wolf howl at night on the Nile unit in the Yakima area. Perhaps a loner split off from the ones in King county about that time. Otherwise I figured it to be a pet released into the wild. I have not seen or heard of a wolf in the Yakima area since then.

The wolf howl came about an hour after dark during the elk rut. It was one of those rare calm nights with lots of elk bugling and coyotes yipping that just mesmerizes you. I was just kicked back on the jeep hood enjoying the evening serenade when the wolf howled. No mistaking it. Everything went dead quiet after a top predator anounced it's presence. Still a powerful memory for me.

The only time I think I heard a wolves howl was 3 years ago when we were hunting SW of Republic down by Swan Lake. My wife and I were set up on a nice hill side for the evening hunt. We were just about to get up and head back to camp when we heard some coyotes yipping in the draw below us. She was kinda freaked out by it but I told her to hold on and lets listen and see if we could locate them. This went on for about 10min and it was almost dark at this point when in the distance you would hear a lone howl. They coyotes shut up and it was dead silence.

At this point, my wife is like  and was ready to get out of Dodge. I can honestly say I was feeling the hair on the back of my neck. I did record some of it, I will have to see if I can find it tonight.

Was back in that area Monday w/ my dad, while we were driving through he quickly told me to stop, jumped out with my binos and kept saying he could have sworn he'd seen a wolf about 30 yards off the road. I chuckled it off... but you never know

We will have to wait soon snow hit new blanket. I am sure wdfw people will be more curious with in 60 miles radius scouting in east side of king county.

Hopefully it just a stupid dogs.

Good news. Police found him. Akita big dog. Its all good.

Now enjoy ur merry xmas. No worry about wolf. It makes me feel better its dog.  I am going pass info to agents.

You got to remember, there are no wolves. So now you can take that pet varminter and paste those really big coyotes!
