My New ATV
« on: June 08, 2007, 09:04:26 PM »
Picked this up last weekend. Runs great, new tires, the hood and top could use a little paint, and the interior isn't perfect, but for only $1000 I didn't think I could go wrong...

Not bad, considering those new shoes probably cost about $1000.  ;)

That is a heck of a deal.  I agree the shoes alone probably ran $1000.  For a few years Ford had a real roblem with the paint rubbing off like that.  I had an older model Ranger that had the exact same problems in the exact same spots.  For the life of me I can't remember if it was the paint or the primer they used that caused that.

Michelle - I am not sure if it was paint/primer but I know that it was not specific to make or model. I do know my buddies old Ranger peeled bad and another friends GMC Jimmy peeled real bad, even my 92 Dodge is peeling as we speak.

Thanks bobcat for taking that piece of junk off my hands!!!  Just kidding never seen that rig before. You got a great deal the body alone can go for almost three times what you payed. As far as the paint if I remember right there was no primer, they were using some sort of electro crap. Although looking at the pictures you may just be loseing the clear coat.
That's my one shot.

Somebody told me the clear coat they used was bad. I don't know. But I will probably have my uncle paint the hood and the top for me, since he already offered to do it, and it won't cost me anything, except whatever the paint costs. You can't really see it in the pictures, but the passenger door is dented, and yesterday just for fun I stopped in at Pick a Part in Tumwater to see what they had. Well they had one sitting there that they had just got in that was identical to mine, color and all. So this morning I went back and grabbed that passenger door, it even has a good mirror attached, and it was only $38. The mirror on mine was dented up on the backside and the glass was scratched. So now just gotta get that hood and top painted and it will look pretty decent, plenty good enough for just running around in the woods. Well actually I'll probably use it for commuting to work as well. Only other thing it needs is to have the A/C recharged, and hopefully recharging is all it needs, or that might get a bit expensive. Does anybody know a good shop around Olympia or Chehalis area that is good with A/C?

Bobcat
If the AC just needs charged you can buy a retro fit kit at most parts stores and do it yourself cheap .
I did one last year myself. Think it was around $40.00

Good luck on the A/C repair.  That can be a real pain in the butt especially if the system hasn't been run in a while.  I don't think I ever ran A/C when I lived in Oregon.  Well unless your on the Dry side I hear it get a tad bit warmer over their.

I love having A/C. Probably will use it most every day in the summer. It's nice being able to leave the windows up while driving down the freeway, and still hear the radio.

Bobcat...not sure where you're at, but if you're anywhere near kirkland...i could probably do something about that a/c issue.
let me know.
