Thanks for the email.  We were not hunting on a reservation and yes we know that Lumenoks and all other electronic devices on a bow are illegal.  Not only in WA but also in many other western states.  We do not break laws in the states we hunt in.  We would be pretty stupid to show a lumenok being shot on a National TV show.  That being said, we are big supporters of Lumenok and think they should be legal in all 50 states and Canada, we try to show them in all legal states and in states like WA we edit in a tracer type effect to appear to be shooting them.  This effect helps our viewer see the arrow in flight and also allows us to support a sponsor and raise awareness and controversy about the Lumenok.


I wish every bow hunter in all western states would stand up for Lumenoks.  Only an uninformed person would argue that they help any hunter in aiding to harvest an animal.  They in no way shape or form do that.  They do however help the hunter find their arrow, which is a good indicator of where your target was hit.  This information allows you to look at your arrow and make a better decision about how soon to trail an animal.  The Lumenok is a valuable tool in helping the hunter find his animal.  It is unfortunate that some states like WA can not see the error in their umbrella law on electronics.

I have no problem with you posting my reply as I can see how you and others would think that.  We love the way that you can follow the arrow and we started doing that this year on another two shows we did.  We go the idea from the hockey puck on TV.

Thanks for taking the time to post that jackelope, and to write them. Very intresting read. I am not sure of what to think about it. I am sure, that someone good at editing could tell us, if this could be done or not. I would think after the arrows hits the animal. It would be really easy to tell if it was a edit job or a real lumenok. I have watched there shows a few times. I did not see this one. But from the shows i have watched, there production value does not seem to be the highest around. I find it hard to think, that type of quality editing would be done on that show. Just my  hope someone who knows editing better could fill us in more.

Well cool for e-mailing them.     I will say the buck down with the arrow sticking out looked staged, so I could see that part being edited, but why would they say we are bowhunting in WA and then show lumenoks without letting viewers know?      Someone watching the show would be like heck I thought they were legal, I seen it on a TV show.  I know that's no excuse, just seems a disservice to their veiwers.  I'm not a big fan of the show, but watched when I saw it was bowhunting deer in WA.  Thanks for getting to the bottom of it.....

I think if they truly new that they were illegal then they should have put some sort of disclaimer on the bottom of the screen saying that the tracer was edited in. This would have taken care of any doubt. On a another note I was talking to my sisters neighbor who happens to work for f&g and told me that in the 2012 season Lumenoks will be legal.

I think I'm going to videotape me killing a bear over bait next year here in WA.  Not really, I'll edit it in the bait pile afterwards, you know because I think we should all be able to bear bait.

There is no issue here but apparently some in this forum community are set on creating one.  Sparky and his guys are a great, ethical, and fantastic Washington based team, to bad this may scar the forum for all of us.
