Tonasket/Wannacut/Sinlahekin

Can someone pm me with some ideas where to photograph up there for winter range Muleys.  Worse comes to worse I'll hit the Sinlahekin for sheep.  I might end up at Wannacut for Christmas.  I know of one or two spots like TC but I haven't been there this time of year.   Also looking for info if I need sled, snowshoes, skis or can drive.

I think the road is Horse Coulee Flats or something along those lines. It's going towards Loomis. I've seen some Muleys up there that I
thought were elk. Google it to find out for sure.

You will need a sled to get off any main roads.  Horse Spring Coulee is all private ground from the road to any deer that might be there.  Your best bet is to get ahold of local guides and take pics off their late muley bait sites, lol.

i hunt over near that area but never been there during the winter so i'm no help. but you can't go wrong with the sheep near loomis...

DO they keep that road plowed during the winter down along the river between Concunully and Loomis?

i'm not sure. i can talk to some folks i know over there and find out. i imagine they would atleast keep Sinlahekin rd plowed.

sorry. didn't read your question well enough. i thought you were talking about the cut over road inbetween conconully and the sinlahekin rd. But it sounds like your actually talking about the sinlahekin rd itself... i will try to find out...

The Sin road is always passible, plowed or not.  Getting through to Conconully is another story.

What- are you new around here?   This issue has been brought up many times on here. There is nothing that says you can't bait deer, hunting season or not. Bears you can't bait, deer and elk, go for it.

Just think of the things that are illegal and it's not hard to imagine

You guys also have to remember there are local ordinances that make it illegal versus just state RCWs.  For instance, its illegal in the Town of Winthrop and Twisp.   Folks just extrapolate from there.

I like how people can't figure things out for themselves. Geeze, I do at my age. Some people like giving the wrong answers too, so the person might get in trouble. I, personally never believe anything anybody tells me until I figure it out. Must be because of the media lying all the time.

I have never had a problem driving the Sinlahekin even in really bad snow years that road is not to bad. There are lots of places for a guy with your lenses to shoot deer up there. Hose Spring Coulee, South Pine Creek, of course the rams in Loomis or Mt. Hull, muleys all along the north side of Palmer Lake, whitetails in the valley from Loomis to Canada.... We were over there three weeks ago and it was a blast. We just had binos and the little point and click but we saw some deer, rams, pheasants, quail, and some huns. I believe Cascade Outfitters has most of the land leased on the east side of the road from Loomis around the lake, seems they also have some postings on the valley floor. Perhaps you could make a deal with them, a few quality pictures of their bucks for access  . Either way keep us posted if you get to go, maybe the Mrs. will feel different after a few days of everyone at home  .

Yeah.  I'm new. 26 years in WA and never heard of anyone baiting deer here. Sorry to have bothered you.

Don't be sorry- you didn't bother me. Meant that as a joke but probably didn't come across that way. It's just surprising how many people think baiting deer and elk is illegal, after all it gets talked about on here. If you spend much time on this site you will read about the baiting issue probably about once a month.

I guess if I think more along the lines of whitetail hunting like back home in WI, then I could imagine it more. It's very controversial back there as many 'tree hugger land owners' set up bait stations on their property to lure the deer off public property. It's been legal and not legal and legal again. But even when it was illegal the freakin do gooders continued to set up bait stations to supposedly save the deer. Many of them were killed by cars crossing the roads getting to the bait. Ironic.

Sako, baiting here is talked about all the time on this site, and no you are no the last person that will have the question . In this thread the bait station is a place where the outfitter will set up a bait to get pictures of the deer on that particular lease. If you go to the Sportsman Show in January you will see pictures of awesome deer from game cams all over the state at the different outfitter booths. A lot of the outfitters and deer enthusiast will put out corn, alfalfa, mineral/food blocks post rut to see what made it through the season and where they might be hanging out now. Trust me there are LOTS of cams set up right now looking to locate deer for shed hunting and next seasons hunt. The recent really cold temps the east side had will bring the deer into easy food and that is a great time for pictures.

Outside of that relax and enjoy the site. A lot of times we read things differently then the poster intended....not always but most of the time . Hope this helped.
