Drop Away for Mathews Z7
« on: December 28, 2010, 09:36:43 PM »
My dad has a Mathews Z7 and is using a Trophy Taker full containment rest but isn't really happy with it.  He was asking me what I thought about rests and was just looking to see what other people were using (the short shelf on a Mathews can sometimes kind of suck.)

I also have a Z7 and use a NAP Apache rest but another guy that we hunt with had his come loose (it's got toolless adjustments) so he's kind of wary about using it.  If it makes any difference at all (don't think it should) he has a short draw length - I think it's about 26.5.  (Mine is 28.5)

Anybody have thoughts on what else might be out there?  He's looking for a full containment rest.  Obviously, I can look up a bunch for him and get some feedback from various websites (and will do so) but if anybody has thoughts on why the rest that they are using is working for them I'd appreciate it.

I am surprised he does not like it. I shoot one and a lot of my friends shoot them. They have worked great for us. If he wants another drop away, i would look at the QAD ultra.

I dont have a Z7 but we switched our three bows (all different models new and old) to QAD Ultra Rest.  Love the rest and have have no problems so far.

I use to shoot a Hostage Pro but it was pretty tough to tune just right.

Good luck, I am sure you will get a ton of different suggestions.

Yeah, I actually said the same thing to him but I promised that I'd try to help him out.  Maybe he'll buy a new one and I can pry the Trophy Taker away from him and put it on my bow.    :chuckle:

That's two for the QAD - definitely will be looking into it.  Thanks guys.

QAD would be my choice as well.  I've shot one since 05 on 3 different bows never a problem.

I just bought a Z7 Xtreme a few weeks ago. I went with the G5 Expert Pro and haven't had any issues with it. Just make sure they put loctite on the screws!

My old man shoot the mathews down force and he loves it. Says it comes up pretty fast but not a problem once you get use to it.
Remember that buck is climbing that Mt. every day!
