Spring bear in the monroe unit

Just wondering if anyone who has drawn a spring tag for bears in the Monroe have gone out and curious to know where about the hunt is.

The Monroe Unit is roughly from Startup due north to Spada Lake, West down the ridge above the Pilchuck River to Lake Roesinger and south close to Woods Creek Road to just above Monroe.

My dad and I spent the day driving lots of roads and glassing but didn't see any fresh sign.  We're going out with the FoxPro tomorrow to see if we can pull one out of the timber to a clearcut.

Any recommendations for the area or hunting spring bears in Western Washington will be appreciated.

When calling make your stands 1 hour long minimum. Call continously and loud.
Try to hunt 10+ year old cuts that are thick with logs and stumps, but that are near the thick timber/reprod. Try areas that are near swamps or places with skunk cabbage and devils club. The salmon berries will be ripe in some places in a few weeks.

What FP sounds are you planning on using?

We couldn't download a call for "rising sap" , so we're planning to use "blacktail fawn distress".
We also discussed trying "rabbit distress" and maybe some of the other fawn distress calls.
There are a few cow and calf distress calls on the unit, but we didn't see any elk sign so I'm hesitant to try it.

We're early enough in the season we have to stay at lower elevations.  There is still a lot of snow covering most of the area.

Too funny on the "sap" call. I was going to suggest it!

I personally think the FP bt distress sucks..There are a couple of whitetail fawn distress sounds that are really good and I use the goat distress as well. As for rabbit I really like the DSG and some of the jackrabbits.

coyote/bear buster by primos work good to. Up in the basin is a good area. Lots of old cuts. Haven't hunted the area for awhile, but know there's a decent population in there. As others have mentioned look for their food source.
