Anybody still hunting this late in the season?
« on: December 26, 2010, 12:57:26 PM »
Is anybody still out in the woods? I'm continuing to hunt JBLM in the vain hopes of avoiding tag soup this year. I have till friday before the season closes on me. Just curious if anybody else is?

Agreed, worked awfully hard for deer this late season. It has been a struggle, to say the least. Hunted on Thursday and was going to hunt today, but figured what the heck. Maybe tomorrow, but I am kind of thinkin that I am done.

Weathergirl is getting rigged up right now.  The deer are starting to move this afternoon.  Of course, it just started raining as well.  Windy as heck too.

I went out this morning and put on a few miserable miles.  Came home cold and wet and never saw a single animal.  I have one day left to hunt but I will be glad it is over either way.  I have never worked so hard for a deer and so far nothing.  I saw so many deer this year out of season or just out of range.

I passed on this doe in early season because of the fawns with her.  I hope they grow up to be gigantic bucks that are super dumb.  :chuckle:

Have a muzzleloader cow tag for Wildwood from Jan.1 to the 15th.  :IBCOOL:

Wanted to go hunting today. Ended up driving the wife, daughter and her friend to Seattle. Could have went but wanted the family time...... BROWNY POINTS FOR A NEW BOW :chuckle: :chuckle: I got my elk so i am good on meat for the year. I would have passed on the doe with a fawn also.. No regrets

Hunting blacktails during late archery has been real tough for me this year. I dont know whats up blacktails have always come pretty easy to me and this year ive put more miles on the boots than any year before with the least results  :dunno: I was at the the gate at 6 AM this morning and hiked a total of 7 miles (3.5 on 3.5 out) and it was windy as hell and piss pourin the whole time but didnt see a single deer.

I tagged a 2pt blacktail on the 18th.  My dad has been hunting pretty hard for a deer still.  Good luck to everyone with tags left.

I'm continuing to hunt JBLM in the vain hopes of avoiding tag soup this year.

Don't forget JBLM in 652 is buck only.  I'm surprised at how many people missed that change this year. I've bumped into several guys in 652 that were doe hunting.

Tough late season hunt this year. I feel lucky getting a spike the weekend before last.

Good luck

Yes and there is snow coming to the foothills!  :)
I'd just like to remind everybody that it's about the hunting, not just the killing. In other words, it's about the total experience, the sport itself and the challenge involved. Bowhunting, done right, is a justifiable and honorable pursuit. Done for the wrong reasons, simply chalking up kills and seeking personal glory, it's taking away rather than giving back to a principled way of life that has to be experienced to be understood. There is a link titled "Corrections to the 2010-2011 Regulation Pamphlet" at http://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/regulations/

If you go there, you will find this:

Quote
Page 18
Under late archery, the legal deer in GMU 652 is Any Buck. In the pamphlet the unit
appears in both the Any Deer and the Any Buck categories. It should only be in Any
Buck.

Got out today it was cold wet and miserable. But I guess if your going to hunt in western washington you might as well get used to it. Saw lots of sign but the only deer I saw was after dark on the drive out!

Weathergirl filled one tag today with her first doe, not sure I can talk her into trying to fill her second tag.   :chuckle: Nice not having to deal with it in the dark.

I am not but I have been helping my brother in law when I can. I have spent this whole month besides weekends working in portland so that leaves little time for him, family is first. We have gone out twice. The first day 11 deer 3 bucks. That ended with a missed shot. The next day 6 deer 2 shots and no deer. I did my part he just didnt close the deal.
Remember that buck is climbing that Mt. every day!

Went out for a short hunt this morning.  The temp wa 12 degrees and not much moving except a spike, tiny forkie and a doe with a fawn.  I'm gonna get in my treestand around 2:00 and wait until it is too dark to shoot and see what comes by.  I might be having deer and elk tag soup for dinner tonight, but that's okay especially when you add cream of chicken soup.

Had one buck just before dark that walked right under my treestand with nothing but bloody stumps on his noggin.  He must have shed earlier in the day because the blood was still fresh.  Tag soup (or maybe stew) this year.
