What do you do now?
« on: April 19, 2008, 09:54:26 AM »

Say you have hiked way in off the roads to a secluded spot that you’ve scouted before the season.  You get a shot early in the day but for what ever reason you’ve missed that shot.  Now you have polluted your location with noise and smell and you yourself smell of rotten eggs.  You also have an empty and dirty rifle.  What do you do now?

Do you clean the rifle and make the smell problem worse?  Do you just reload and keep hunting even though anything and everything can smell you from 100s of yards away?  Or do you pack out and find a shower and change of clothes?

If one shot ruined my area and made me smell like rotten egss.....I would switch to archery!

Seriously, I would reload and continue my hunt. If a critter can smell you from 100 yards away you need to turn around and hunt the other direction.

"Nothing like the smell of Napalm in the morning......"

Did I get the quote right?  Can anyone guess the movie.

You definatley should be able to shoot more than once without cleaning your rifle, and you just move along and hunt the wind liek normal.

Agreed, keep hunting & if you were calling, the animal may still come to you from a different location.
Some people spend their entire life wondering if they made a difference. Marines don't have that problem.

Reload, and hold position for abit then slowly move on. Just because you miss you dont quit. Hell the animal may have only ran 50yds and then started settling down.,may offer another shot. Its worked for me befor.

I concure ... Like tmikes dad allways told us "if you arent hunting into the wind ... you arent hunting!" Oh and I would switch from Pyrodex to 777 as well!  ;)

Roll around in all the fecal matter you can find close by and then continue on.
