huckleberry?

is there alot of good bucks in the huckleberry. I know there is alot of deer in the rice area but i went during turkey season a couple years back but we couldn't see any bucks. And when i was up there  i found a 4 point shed o n the first day.

There is lots good bucks in this unit. Most of which camp out on the private ground. But wouldn't really consider it a sought after unit for Mule deer. They are far and few between. Small herds and over hunted by the locals.

Very poor.  As a matter of fact this specific GMU is on the game departments 3 point minimum radar and the deer population including does is drastically down from history.  It was meant to go 3 point minimum last year but they had a internal misunderstanding and not enough votes to pass it due to not enough commissioners being present to validate a action.

I have been there many times... Deer are nearly extinct in this unit... certainly no big bucks..

my brother and I have hunted that area for 10 years and have watched the numbers and quality if deer drop significantly.  even with a doe tag this year it was not possible to fill the tag.  we saw one doe that took of running at the sight of our truck driving up the road to our hunt spot.  it is definitly way over hunted by the locals that seem to have their own season...whenever one appears.  just makes me sick and will have to soak for at least 5 years before we go back.

That's bad to hear - I used to hunt timber company land in this area quite a bit and it was seemed to be great whitetail country in the early to mid-90's.

As a Huckleberry resident I would love to tell you all that there are no deer left and to not bother hunting it. That isnt the case, but the deer numbers are down in 121 for sure!

Actually that isnt from huckleberry. I havent shot a buck in 121 since I was a kid.

There are still a bit of deer in the 121 and there is alot of big ones! But its just the same as any other unit, you have to put on alot of boot miles and do your homework to find out where there at.

My buddy and I hunted up there for a couple of years. Neither of us ever got a deer, and it was very crowded.

  i think there is a lot of year around  poaching due to the population and other things.

My family owns property in the Huckleberry, we are up in the hills between Addy and Gifford. When we first got the place there were a ton of deer and now there are far fewer. The past winters have done the most damage but the poaching doesn't help either. As anywere, there are big bucks around, but its no slam dunk killing one, even with the liberal late seasons in the unit...

If it was easy they would call it killing not hunting. I too am a resident of the unit. Home work home work. Get out of your truck. Number one way people hunt the unit is right from their window. Big bucks dont come easy.
