remington 700 sps

i got my eye on one in 300 win. how does it compare to a tikka or vangaurd or any other rifle in the same price range? any imput would be great

I have 2 of them.  One in .270 win that I bought new in 2005 that has killed 10 deer, and one used one that I just bought in 7mm Mag that has only been out to the range once.  Both tack drivers.  Love 'em...

I have the Remy sps and the Tikka t3 lt. and they're both awesome shooters.

I have one in 7mm RUM. Its a great shooting gun. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.
I also have a Tikka t3 lite in 300 WSM it's a great shooting gun as well.

My buddy has one in .223 with the bull barrel. he put a SS 16x and a new stock on it. He has been shooting clays at 720 yards with it.   

I've shot it a few times. its nice. .223 with the bull barrel, it never heats up. great at the range.

[/quote/) I have a Remington 700 SPS Varmint 223rem. too. Love the gun. Very accurate  and like you said barrel never really heats up. You can shoot and shoot.

out goofing off in the woods hunting my CDL is always nicer but whenever we have shooting races at the range my Stainless fluted .223 always needs a break. IF i were to do it different i would have gotten a tikka .223 because of the tighter rate of twist. If i go over 55 grainers with mine they go haiwire

slight thread jack here, Just curious why you like the CDL better for out in the woods?

compaired to his gun specifically. mine weighs half as much, and has a more versitile scope.

had 1 in 270, 1 in 223 and still have one in 7mm-08. love 'em but be careful if stalking in close you bump or pull that hollow stock thru brush it will be LOUD. other than that great, the 7mm-08 has the x-mark trigger and it is tuned to a crisp 3 pounds.

I dont care for the stock on a sps but thats a easy fix, other then the isued plastic it's a great way into a 700 for a good price.

I personally like the feel of my M700's more than my Tikka, or my M70.  I've yet to see a M700 shoot poorly.  I've been amazed at how well my Tikka shoots, and some of the stories I've heard from others.  I finally got my M70 shooting well, but don't like the feel of the safety compared to the M700 (need to move hand forward to turn off safety, unlike the M700).  That said, I think M70's are put together with more precision than the others.  I'll probably hunt with a M700 though for the rest of my life.
