found a new honey hole
« on: January 01, 2011, 04:40:01 PM »
So I went some where I didn't think anyone would go. Well I was right I had to use my pickaxe to get the gate open because it was frozen shut with ice. I got to where I was going and there was rabbit track and coyote tracks every where. I made a stand and had a reply but no show. I glassed before I got up and there was a coyote up wind of me about 600yds. I decided to give it a shot while it was sitting down looking my way. I hit just right of it and didn't even make it move? Well I tried to range finder again but no luck so it stopped broad side after it moved a few yds and I shot and missed just over it's back which made it walk away. I walked up and there was track every where. I'm going to hit the spot again early in the morning.

Today was my first full day of calling. Took two of my friends over to one of our ranches. Could not call any in for the life of us. We had a bonus yote, my buddy missed first thing this morning, that was not on a stand. Then i gave him 2 warning shots after he missed  :chuckle: he was in high gear :chuckle: Then going into a stand we had one jump up out f the field "from his bed" and he take off. One of my buds shot at it, and missed it. Then later one of my buds saw a yote eating on another dead animal. He shot it at about 300yards and we were not able to recover it. It went way down the canyon after he shot it :chuckle:. But 5 stands in about 20degree weather :yike: and not a dam yote :bash: Today was one of those crappy days :chuckle: did find 5 sheds including a really nice matching 4 point set. Right were the buck had jumped the fence. So that was the highlight of the day.

Cool, sounds like a nice new spot. Where did you say that was at??  :chuckle:

Yeah me & FC went out to my Granite Falls "honey hole" yesterday but didnt come home with anything. We called one in after what seemed like 20-30min into our stand but it may have been sooner. But FC didnt have a clear & safe shot at it - there was a barn in the background - and it spooked and wouldnt come back in. I stopped calling when I first saw him thinking he'd get curious and come a lookin but FC said whenever I was calling he would want to come in and when I stopped he would spook off. I guess he was eyeing  Thumper my little bunny decoy but it wasnt enough to get him to come in. We went back out there a few hours later to see if the evening would do any better but nothing, not even any barks or howls. I think I may be over working the area out there. I've killed at least 4 dogs there in the last 6 mos and got nothing in the last 3 times out there except the one that came in yesterday and spooked.  I think they are on to me and my calls but FC thinks I'm giving them too much credit!  :dunno:
I aint superstitious - cuz its bad luck!

Lol it's on a hill up that road. I have a spot Luke the one you do. The coyotes get pretty smart and fast, I need to try and get the smart ones to get a few dumb ones in there place.

Glad to hear you guys are at least seeing them

I was out trying to find/make some blinds this weekend out in Snoqualmie with crappy results. Saw tracks all over, but after calling non-stop both days, nothing showed. Loved the weather though
Theres plenty of room for all of gods animals.... right next to the mashed potatoes!
