I dont think they should do this, not yet anyway. They used to give out doe permits in the Teanaway but have done away with them. I have hunted the Teanaway for the last 12 years and the past 5 years we have seen a decline in numbers where we hunt. Hair loss hit the area, probably not as much as other areas but it did and decreased numbers. I think the deer are still rebounding from that, and if the rest of this winter keeps hitting the area with storms that may take its toll on the herd. I do agree that harvesting does can alter the sex ratio to a more equal state, but from what i've seen the deer have not rebounded. I say give it a few years, assess the population (they dont conduct surveys in the Teanaway, aerial surveys for deer that is, they may do ground surveys) and then think about harvesting does to maintain the desired sex ratio. Not everywhere in the Teanaway can you see that many deer in that short of time. If you were hunting low you gotta know that a lot of deer out there just like elk know the private ground and when they get pressured on public ground and higher areas they often move down to private ground where they know they're safe. Depending on your proximity you could have been witnessing this.
This is the first year in 5 years we've seen an increase finally.
