Just be glad it didn't happen when you were were being checked by a game warden in a state where all waterfowl must must killed while in possesion. It happened to me with a greenwing teal back in college. I opened the tool box on the truck to let the game warden inspect the ducks I shot and there is this greenwing looking back at me. If I wasn't so surprised (jumped about 2 ft back) I think I may have been ticketed, but the game warden got a good laugh out of it, so I was fine.

Was that in Wyoming?
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.
