Winchester’s new Ammo
« on: January 04, 2011, 08:58:25 AM »
Anyone seen or used this stuff?

http://www.fieldandstream.com/blogs/ammunition/2010/10/bourjaily-tests-winchesters-blind-side-shells

I guess this is Winchester’s attempt at something to compete with Blackcloud.  I’m not seeing how dice shaped shot is going to improve anything but maybe I’m missing something.

I like the idea of delivering more payload to the target.

I've hear the price point is going to be in the $30/box range.

not so sure about this.... normally flat sides result in the "knuckling" affect which the pellets would not fly very straight..

If the price is in the $17-22 range i'll give it a try if not i just keep buying the standard... Cool that they are trying diff stuff tho...

Companies are always coming up with new ideas that hopefully pan out.
The wad looks like a good idea as is the Black Cloud wad. The flat sided pellets tell me that they will penetrate less and worse, not carry themselves down range as well as round pellets simply because of being less aerodynamic. These loads will not shoot well thru a Patternmaster choke similar to the Black Cloud ammo.

Well if you think about it Black clowd and this Blindside spreads too quick for the shape of the pellets but they off set that by changing the shot cup... Steel sucks cause it normally goes right through... I think this stuff might not be as good as lead but thery are heading in the right direction..  :twocents:

Havent heard of this ammo yet but I do know from experience that flat sided pellets dont fly straight.  Now that said...These companies dont put something out on the market without tons of money being spent in research and development.  I say give it a try.  The writer of the article seemed to be very impressed and it seems that they solved the problem with the flyers by using that new wad.  The only thing that would make me say no way was a price in the $30.00 range.  The article said that the price was in the $17 - $22 range and that is reasonable I think.

I have cut open many factory shells over the years. Some of the most deadly ammo is not round. Hevi steel comes to mind. It looks like welding slag, piled up birds though. If they bringing this to market my guess is they have figured out some of the problems with it. I am curious how much difference it actually makes.
