U.P./ Tacoma blacktail
« on: April 22, 2008, 02:16:18 PM »
I've seen 4 blacktails in the U.P. area within the past week. There seems to be a lot of deer around Chambers Creek and stretching farther into Tacoma and U.P.

I heard something about WDFW opening up a select few archery hunts in the chambers creek area because the herd is getting bigger than the area can hold. Anyone know if there is any truth to that? Anyone else live near this area and been seeing animals?

My brother use to bowhunt deer up near the corner of 56th st and bridgeport where the new play fields are now built.Use to see some nice bucks running around there. I heard that Lakewood was going to allow some bowhunting within the city limits but not sure on exactly where.

They actually did a story about that last year in the TNT. I believe it is open for bowhunting. But you might want to call city hall to find out details.

One of my friends lives in Steilacom and that place is crawling with deer. Maybe you can bowhunt on the military land there...?  :dunno:

You can at the top of the hill heading out of Steilacoom to the south ... that is where the Military land starts, but Steilacoom and the Chambers creek area are loded with deer! That was my territory when I sold beer and wine and I would see them everyday!

Last summer I saw a doe running down down Ruston Way in front of the grain docks.  Came back by about an hour later and someone had hit her.

Theres some huge bucks there.  I was driving to a soccer game a few years ago and the military police had a guy pulled over...as I drove by slowly in the back of his little pickup was a MONSTER buck.  He had his head in his hands.....sorry sight.  Blasted it on military property.  The habitat was madrona etc with swaths of scotchbroom...perfect.  He almost got away with it  :bdid:
