Help with archery in GMU 117 (LPO)
« on: February 16, 2011, 10:27:16 PM »
I am looking at early archery next season in GMU 117, mainly LPO. Last season was my first archery season and hunted 204, and wasn't impressed. I am hoping I can get some tips or info about 117, anything at all will help greatly!

You weren't impressed with 204 so you are going to 117... :yike:

Everyone knows all the big bucks live in 204. :chuckle:

Granted it was my first season in 204, but I saw zero bucks, and only a few does, but nothing I could get a shot off on. Since I am fairly new to the sport, taking down anything legal would be good in my book.  ;)

I don't know the area at all but the best advise I could give you is get out and scout hard. For me puttin lots of mile on the boots before season helps out alot when the season opens up.

That's just my   :twocents:

get access to private land.  and i believe early archery in 117 is now buck only.  can't shoot does until late season.  almost learned that lesson the hard way!  glad i checked the regs ONE MORE TIME before i left the house opening morning!

side note, isn't GMU 117 49 degrees north and not Pend Orielle?

I'm guessing he meant the LPO "Little Pend Orielle" wildlife area, which is in gmu 117..... :dunno:  If so, set up a bait and trail cams like many others that have success in those neck of the woods with archery equipment. :twocents:

Thanks for the advice! And yes, I did mean the LPO refuge.

Baiting deer in that federal Wildlife Area is illegal. Do your homework rdale14; can't always depend on others to keep yourself out of trouble.

I'd just like to remind everybody that it's about the hunting, not just the killing. In other words, it's about the total experience, the sport itself and the challenge involved. Bowhunting, done right, is a justifiable and honorable pursuit. Done for the wrong reasons, simply chalking up kills and seeking personal glory, it's taking away rather than giving back to a principled way of life that has to be experienced to be understood. Wow, thank you very much. I did not know you could not bait on a refuge. You just saved me a whole lot of trouble!
