How many GMU's do you hunt? For deer or elk?
«

I reported my hunting for deer and elk and think that asking for only 2 GMU's is not a very accurate way of sizing up how much and where the hunting is going on... For elk I only hunted 2 GMU's this year... In the past I've hunted 3... All near each other.. This year i hunted in 5 GMU's for deer... I'm just curious how many of you hunt lots of different areas... I am a Archery hunter so there are areas that i go to when one area closes....

My 2 main hunting areas are right where 3 gmu's come together. So that's six right there plus I wander a little during deer season.

Hm.... HUNT, or SCOUT? And, where I Bear hunt is not necessarily where I Deer hunt. If I'm fishing.. I'm hunting. If I'm hunting for Grouse, I'm hunting/scouting anything else that might be in the area.

I can only hunt one GMU each for deer and elk, because the bad limit is one so I can never hunt a 2nd GMU.
OK, bad joke.
I tend to concentrate my efforts on only a couple GMUs each for deer and elk.

I scout several for all species-
Actual hunting. It depends on the year, how much game I see in the areas hunted, land closures etc... I tend to roam more for deer than elk. Usually 1 unit maybe 2 for elk. And minimum of 2-3 for deer. This year I hunted at least 6-7 different gmus for deer. But focused my time in 3.

I think the responses back up my thinking about GMU use... I also find that when i go visit the in laws Its great to toss in the bow and go for a morning still hunt while most everybody is sleeping in.. I live near unit 407 and My In laws live in the battle ground unit (Vancouver) Both of those have a lengthy late season..
