Take The ElkNut Challenge!
« on: January 12, 2011, 11:58:27 AM »

This information can provide elk hunters with just one of the many tools they need to be successful during an elk hunt. At this time there are 10 questions.  We are looking into a Computer and iPhone/iPad application.. Test your skills on the Challenge and tell us what you think of it.  Our plans are to have a Disc with 75-100 Questions, Sounds & Short 10-15 Second Video Clips with actual elk giving a particular sound, then there would be a multiple choice answer, one which is correct! This means there will be a variety to watch & listen too in order to test your skill level and begin improving that level. You'll be learning what sounds mean and when to use them in a repetitive but fun way. Allowing you to successfully analyze your next vocal encounter with an elk and smoothly flow into the correct response or action.

Take the Challenge By clicking on  http://www.elknut.com/elknutchallenge.html   & letting me know what you think & if you have further thoughts that may improve the 1st Disc we release!

Fun idea. Nice way to pass a little time when you can't get out in the woods.

Herd bull!

Suggestion (and it may be that you already decided to do this on the final version or with the larger number of questions it might be covered elsewhere in the full version of the quiz), have an explanation of the correct answer if someone gets it wrong.  For instance, the "glunking" question could explain what it was that you were listening to and then have the sound of actual glunking.

Anyway, I think that the quiz is great idea.  Good thinking.

Awesome guys, you're doing great!!! !!! As far as the Glunking question goes the real answer which is there is Tending Glug! Not to fear though in the real version or Disc we will have actual video of a bull Glunking along with other sounds he may use while in the act, this will help clear it up as will the PlayBook, both sounds are thoroughly explained in there as well. But for grins I will post the Difference between the two here shortly in explanation form so look for that New Thread shortly! Thanks!

Herd bull!!! I don't think this accurately describes my ability to call elk or else I would have been a calf.  :chuckle:

Glunking was also my downfall, 9 out of 10

What is a super-master-herd bull stud...

For some reason, after I got the first ten questions right it kept on throwing more questions at me...that I kept on getting right...eventually my computer started smoking and the screen went blank for a second...then the words "super-master-herd bull stud" popped up with fireworks in the background.  Weird...

....(I won't reveal my real score, I don't want to embarrass anyone...myself included)

Thanks guys! The Challenge although only 10 questions at present will be aprox 100 of various Sounds & actual clips of Bulls & Cows making Sounds & you must identify them, the answers will be multiple choice, it should be fun & a learning tool!

I like the thought about "Instinct" sometimes you must go with your gut! (grin)

Really cool idea, Elknut.  I'm definitely sold and will be getting some of your stuff.

I about quit watching hunting videos because I usually don't learn anything - just watch something get shot.  Whatever.  If I have a chance to learn something and improve my hunting skills, and just general woodsmanship, I'm all for it.  This is great.
