What materials do I need for a coyote snare?

I need to make a snare that wont loosen upon closing.The materials needed, can I get them from a hardware store?....My chickens have been attacked and ive located the entry point under a fence! A basic explenation for a snare would be greatly apreaciated....Ive found some snare websites talking about washer stoppers but i may need help in figguring out how this will not loosen but tighten?

You might look into trapping regs before you do that. I believe a snare would be a no-no but there are guys on here way smarter than me on that

I've got a suggestion for you thats legal.  put some small bells on the fence area he's crawling under and bait the area with some chicken livers or something stinky and stake it out. When you here the bells ring shoot him in the teeth!!! then hang his carcass as a reminder to the other yotes in the area.

Snares are illegal so I'm not going there but consider a double door cage trap in the fence crawl through. No bait just a blind set. Camoflage it as best you can.

A one way slide/stopper made from a washer.  Washer is bent at a 90 degree angle with two smaller holes drilled on opposite sides for the wire to pass through.  Attache the cable to one side of the washer and run the other end of the wire through the opposite drilled hole. 
The washer will slide easily one way but bind up in the other direction.

I disagree. A better statement would be everyone should have materials and or the know how of how to construct a snare for emergency survival scenarios.

I'm thinking packing around a snare could you get you in some trouble with the law should a gamie search the contents of your pack for one reason or another.   my

I carry a ready to go snare in my pack.Im not concerned about the game guys at all.I should put 4or5 in there to be honest...I carry a gun in the woods when hunting season is over also...If I need to set a snare or 5 to save my life,I could care less about the laws..you can buy ready made kill snares for  a couple of bucks and ya dont notice the weight in the pack at all...they work well for skinning critters also in the woods.

Ready made snares for your survival kit that are completely legal to carry with you anywhere.  If you use them, it better be an emergency.

Well they are fishing equipment not really snares.  How is a warden gonna give you a ticket for fishing tackle?

As everyone else has said, body gripping traps are illegal in this state. This same law also applies to moles, those highly effective scissor traps are illegal. WDFW makes a couple cases every year for people using snares or other body gripping traps for coyotes.

And it is correct, totally legal to own/posses the trap, but illegal to use. Kind of like how you can possess a barbed hook in the saltwater but can't use it.
