Band Information
« on: January 12, 2011, 06:33:09 PM »
I got my first band of the season yesterday and was wondering how long it takes to get the details. The last one I got, if I remember right, took like a month to get the results. It seems like some post on here get there info in a couple of days. When I reported it, they said they would mail it to me within 6 weeks. Is there a quicker way?
The bird was a mallard drake that was probably the biggest I have gotten before. It was the size of a domestic.

If you can't get the info back immediately the Bio or Tech either hasn't reported the banding of the bird yet, or you may have a bird that was banded more than ten years ago. Does the band say Avise Bird Band on it????

No it  says something about Maryland Bird Bands. The numbers are really worn off and barely readable in some spots. I am impatient to find out where it was banded. Just like waiting to see where a hatchery fish was reared when you catch them in the salt.

If you report it on line, you will see some of the information on the band at that time.

It is really cool to find out the info on the birds.  I shot a ten year old Pintail that the band was so worn down that I sent it in to them and had it etched.  Even after etching they could barely make out the numbers.  Pretty cool what they can do.
