I sure don't see anything open in those units. Only permit I see right now is the Lakeview Deer Area, and that's in GMU 272, so not even close. Maybe it was an indian?

I've hunted 162, lots of indians hunting down there. I wouldn't put it past a farmer or another sportsman picking up some roadkill as for it not to go to waste.

A lot of people are getting cited lately for doing the same thing. It is illegal to posess dead wildlife, other then those you've legally killed.

The rule doesn't really have anything to do with waste, but a way to prevent poaching. There have been numerous cases over the years where people will intentionally run over animals so they can bring them home to eat. How would an officer know if you just simply picked up a road kill deer or if you intentionally ran it over? There was a big case in Ocean Shores a couple years ago where 2/3 guys ran over a handfull of deer intentionally.

Umm can't say I see a huge problem with that example ocean shores is infested with deer...
yes the law is there because 90% of honest people need to be kept in check for the one or two idiots that would purposely run over deer....but it makes it ok to have the law because it is protecting us from wrongdoing....sorry just don't buy it....and not gonna change my mind it is a dumb law

I agree 100% run. Complete waste of an animal in most cases.

I also don't see it as a huge issue with folks intentionally running them over in order to take them home. I know, it does happen occassionally. However, most folks are not going to risk $1000's worth of damage to a rig for a bit of meat in the freezer. Sounds like an expensive way to harvest an animal in my opinion.

You will not see one animal on the side of the rd in AK, all consumed.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

How would an officer know?  I don't know maybe the damage to the front bumper?

Usually it's done in groups. One truck is the "attacking" truck while the other is the one who goes around and picks up the animal. Or you can hit the animal, put it in a ditch or somehow hide it then come back in another vehicle and pick it up. Not that hard to do.

Yeah, probably not many people doing it, because it's against the law. Now if there were no law preventing it, then you can be sure there would be plenty of people doing it. Probably why they passed the law in the first place.

I doubt it. I bet it happens almost as much now as it would if it was legal. I don't think too many people are going to risk smashing up their car on purpose for a deer. I would be willing to bet that if someone wanted a deer that bad they would probably just shoot it. It would be easier and you wouldn't waste as much meat.

Lately it is has been high/drunk teen/college aged kids who don't give a damn and want to go have some "fun" and kill some animals, don't really give a dam about their truck. It's just like the "thrill killings" lately and how it always  seems to be high/drunk kids.

And they wouldn't give a Damn about  a law either. Besides these aren't the people that would pick road killed deer up for the meat. So punish everyone because the behavior of a few. Those thrill killings like you said are done by punk kids who won't be  stopped by a law. It's the same as the the punks who shoot them and let them lay.

I too am a law abiding sportsman, by the book. But I have a hard time watching animals waste. They need to amend the law, so that if you call the game department someone could come and tag it for you. Game warden or sheriff since most need a accident report for insurence anyway. At least that way the law could determine accident or not. The way it is you just flat out can't take it. >:( The law just makes otherwise great sportsmen break the rules. If no one was around I'd have a hard time not throwing a animal in the truck, if it's not blown in half. :dunno:

When I use too live in pullman they use to take some of the road kill deer to the grizzlies on campus. That was about 12 yrs ago tho.
