Pawn Shop score today-CVA ElkHorn
« on: January 13, 2011, 02:59:33 PM »
I picked up a CVA Elkhorn Pro Magnum at a pawn shop today, they wanted $135.00 but I asked if he could go any lower and he said $120.00 was as low as he could go  :), so I bought it for $120.00  :chuckle:  Looks really clean, no scratches.
My first Muzzy so if anyone thats shoots the Elkhorn has any advise on loads and such let me know, any info is appreciated.

Nice score!  Always smart to stop in and check out pawn shops.  I have scored a couple good deals on bows.

sweet- I've done muzzle a few seasons and it is fun. Funnest part is finding a good load. No two muzzle loaders shoot the same so it takes a ton of shooting to find out what yours likes the best. Have fun and a nice score is right.

209 primers are illegal in Washington. I hope it uses the right ignition source.

I shoot one as my main gun. There is some good info in here about them. I shoot the 290 b tmz bullets with either pyro rs or triple 7 always loose. Play with it and see what it likes for a charge, and a bullet and you will do good.

Oh, I often also use Windex, either by itself, or with the hot water.

For you guys that shoot sabot's, do you have to clean after every shot? I watched a video and the guys said that if you shoot sabots that you have to clean the plastic out after every shot  :dunno:

Anybody using WhiteHots pellets?

I belive that the white hot pellets are for 209 only ??? I shoot sabots in mine clean the barrel every shot when sighting in after its sighted in ., I shoot 4-5 times before cleaning again. No proplems

I think he might have meant just when your sighting the gun in and its not a real cleaning, I just run a DAMP !!!( NOT A WET PATCH !!) patch thru the barrel a couple times then a dry patch a couple times the load her up and shoot agin.

White hots are more for the 209's. I don't know anyone who shoots them. When i am sighting in, i clean between every shot.
