Late Alta Muzzy tags
« on: January 15, 2011, 11:19:33 AM »
I had the tag last year and did ok, but felt it was a waste of 10 points. (Passed up a bigger buck in the regular season}  How did you guys do.  Any good stories or close calls?  Was it like I-5 with people laike I saw last year? :dunno:

it wasn't to bad as far as people goes.  a lot of the bigger bucks hadn't move in yet.  I passed on several bucks all week.  I shot a small two point on day 5.  I had my chances on a nice 4x4 with eye guards 28" 180".  Sat on him all day not able to close the distance.  He came in right at last light and had a two point screw me up running a hot doe.  well didn't screw me up but the light was fading fast and he came within 120 yards or so.  the bitter brush was the the back ground and there were 3 bucks standing there and I couldn't tell wich one he was. packed up my gear to head out and saw him at 200 yards ran over within a 100 yards took a knee. aimed fired and the cap didn't go off.  :bash:.  got a new cap on and had a 120 yard shot.  Could barley see through my sights and missed twice :bash: :bash:.  Couldn't find him the next day.  I ended up shooting the two point that screwed me up the night before.  I also passed on several nice bucks during the regular season.  I would not say it was a waste of points though.  I had my chances and saw a ton of bucks.  there are a couple of other guys on here that had the same tag.  They also shot smaller bucks.  I knew of 8 people who had this tag and I think the largest buck shot was 120" Maybe.  that might even be pushing it.

Here is a link to my late season hunt. I had a great time, and meet some great people while I was there. Definitely not a waste of points. I will be putting in for this tag every year from now on. Oh yeah Heath. Charlie put a tape on my buck when he had it and came up with a gross score of 132". I still wish either you or Mike could of gotten that pig. Every time I see a big muley, either in pictures or at Cabela's I think about that buck. He sure was a dandy.

Here is a couple of pictures of the big boy that Teanaway went after. Taken with my point and shoot threw the spotting scope from probably 500-600 yards away. Then cropped. Wish I would of taken a few more while we where watching him but didn't.  :bash:

A buddy had the tag this year, which went unfilled.

He did snap this pic of a dandy on private land!  He tried to reach the landowner....

Did your buddy drive a toyota. I think he stopped and showed that picture to the land owner we where talking to. Sure is a nice buck. To bad he couldn't get him.

come on oldschool you could have held out a little longer.  I know it wasn't an easy hunt but you did choose to shoot one pretty early.  There was lots of good bucks seen.  Just not harvested.

I didn't take it as bashing. I know how big your deer was.  :chuckle: Oh and Mike I'm pretty sure that was the guys that stopped by in the blue tacoma.

paul just giving you a hard time.  I scouted a bunch to.  All I am saying is that I did see some quality bucks.  Just couldn't seal the deal.  But you are right there was not a quality buck shot that I know of.  I had a guy let me gain access through his property and his buddy had the rifle permit. Well there group did 7 of them he said 3 of them shot spikes.  the biggest he said was like a 25" 4 point.  Just giving an old man some chit. ;).  It was nice hunting with you!

high country I think your right.  It was a kid and he did miss this buck at close range.  Came onto the private land to look for it because he thought that he hit it but missed.  then took this pic at like 40 yards.  I still don't know why he didn't shoot him.  I went looking for this buck right after they took this pic but couldn't find him.
