Ruger 77 Hawkeye 308 win?
« on: January 15, 2011, 06:34:32 PM »
How is your Ruger 77 Hawkeye 308 win shooting? Thinking about getting one of these but wanted to hear some customer feedback.
You don't need a flatter shooting rifle or a larger caliber. What you need is good field marksmanship. Jeff Cooper.

I have a Rem 700 XCR in 7-08 that is a great shooter but was thinking of switching to 308 due to five gallon buckets of once fired match grade 308 brass, cheaper to shoot. The rifle I have now is practicaly brand new. That or I will just start stock pilling 7-08 brass. I know that in Rem Core lokt a box of 7-08 is 25$ same box of core lokt 308 is 16$. There is a lot more brass to pick from and load data is off the chart with 308....just thinking it over, for ease and cost effectivness.

princess shoots aruger hawkeye in

 7 mmmmmmmmm oh 8

after a new trigger  (rugers standard 5000lb trigger pull had to go  :chuckle: ) and some custom reloads she shoots wonderfully....kinda heavy to haul around the woods....but fine for spot and stalk or calling situations.... and at times temperamental just like her owner

Glenn why not just resize the .308 brass to 7mm-08? Unless of course this is just an excuse to buy a new gun =P
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

:yeah: If you are trying to save money that is the way to go. The remington 7mm-08 brass aint to bad for $. maybe a little bit more then the 7mm-08 but not a bunch.

I would have never thought you were the Ruger firearms sort of person, yet alone an advocate of the 7-08 Remington. The cartridge does have its atributes...they are many and sound. Have you been shooting a 7-08 for long? Killed anything with it yet?
