Rem 870 is a great time tested gun. The older ones are better, then the newer guns. :twocents:

 :yeah:

Although I like my older 870 Wingmaster, my boys have 870 Express models that don't have the bluing finish of the Wingmaster, they are pretty much the same inside. The 870 models are great shot guns for the price. Some would say better than many more expensive shotties. If you want a semi-auto, then the 1100 would be fine choice.

Can't knock a Mossburg 500 either. Great value for the price.

870 express.  Reliable, parts available everywhere, and you can get one for about $300 that shoots 2 3/4" and 3".  That's plenty good enough for most everything.

I have to agree with this. I have an older one that is a great gun. I bought both of my nephews new ones and I was a little disappointed. Didn't seem to be the same gun they use to be. They still work fine
Me three, the older ones are much better than the express. And you cant go wrong with a Nova or Mossberg.  :twocents:

Mossberg 500 or the 535.  Have shot both and love them.  Hate the new coatings on the Remingtons, seems to be a rust magnet and scratch easily. Other than that 870's are good, but I don't think I will ever buy one.

Mossberg for me my first was a bolt action 410. Hunted dove, quail, rabbits and coyotes through my youth and high school. Now I have an 835 and like it as well, and made in the USA. Most important is how it feels to you and how you feel with it in your hands!

My wife's 870 is sturdy, but a little heavy.  My winchester 1300 is my favorite by far. A little lighter, very smooth action, and not too many parts to malfunction...mine never has.  I've shot the Nova and wasn't impressed.  Felt 'loose'.

Browning BPS.....
Remington 870
Benelli nova
Check the pawn shops, they should have all have these to fondle and ponder, but whatever one you pick, make sure it fits you/shoulders good for your size.
More important than what brand/model,
