Fishing rod

I need some help.  Looking for a salmon rod to fish the Frazier River in BC this summer, will be catching 20-40 pound salmon.  Needs to be able to cast 2-4 oz of lead a GOOD distance, spinning rod heavy to medium heavy, and about 9-10 foot in length.  Any reasonably priced ideas, say less than a hundred?

One thing that I have learned, there are not a lot of good rods out there for less than a 100.   You are going to the frazier river to fish. Spend the money and get a rod that is going to last.

Cabelas should have plenty to choose from. Lamiglas would be where I would start looking. Berkley makes some nice rods, not sure if they make one that big.

I agree with spending a bit more than a hundred to get a better rod but if you need to stay below a hundred get an okuma,  I have hauled in plenty of good sized fish with them with no problems.

+1. We fish a lot out of our boat. I went through 4 salmon rods before I decided to buy a Loomis. Thy have a lifetime warranty.

Lots of rods under 100.00 if you decide to stick with that.

All my bass and salmon rods are now Loomis, 27 rods add up fast. But I have broken a couple and had a new one in hand with in days. Depending if you just want a heavy rod for the bigger kings, go to their website and look around.

I agree loomis is the way to go. I recently bought a St. Croix and so far Im liken it. I have also used rogue rods a couple times and they feel nice. But all in all your not goin to beat a loomis.

Ya I have spent a lot of money recently on rods, last one a St Croix Avid $$$.  So I was looking for some other ideas.  Rogue has one that I like it is a 12 foot rod but it is $320.  Looking for something around the same specs but not so much cheese.

See what is in St. Croix Wild River catalogue... Wild River is not as light, but they are worth every $$$ IMO. I have one Medium-Heavy, and like it just as much as my other rods. These are in $150 range. Other than this, I would go with Lamiglas. I see some problem here, since you mentioned that it has to be Spinning rod... Those are harder to find in heavy class (for Salmon fishing).

do some searches for custom rod biulders near you. I personally use TH Custom rods. Look at haveing a Rainshadow blank biult how you want it. You get a better product for less money. It's not hard to do better than a GLoomis rod IMO for about $100.00 less.

I have around 20 custom Rainshadow and Rogue rods and am happy with every single one.

Previous posters have suggested some good set-ups. Your going to have so much fun fishing the fraser river. Also try Vedder river in chilliwack.
I should dig out my sockeye photo from 2010 sockeye run, was insane! Limit out every day in no time, Good Luck!

I bout a St. Croix rod a few years back and I love it. No matter what brand of rod you are buy you get what you pay for.

Now, I haven't fish the Fraser (on my list for this or next summer) and not sure what BIG means in Canada but while fishing the Kenai and Klutina River I have caught alot of BIG kings 40-50lbers and a few Hogs, my Lamiglass Kenai rod heavy action worked great...  Will admit I exploded one or two though over the years...  Not sure about the spinning set???  Maybe check on one of the salt water forums as they used them quit a bit for surf fishing with big fish...

Loomis is  agreat rod with a very good warranty. I have 4 fly rods and few spinning rods. Have used my 10 wt to catch kings, taimen, stripers, blue fish, steelhead, bonefish, redfish, jacks, big pike, smaller tarpon, snook, sharks, silvers... 12 years old and still going strong.

Another decent rod for the money ( less than $100) and a good warranty is the Okuma at Bi Mart

Rainshadow blans are decent too if you build you own rods. I belive they have a good warranty to.
