Rifled Slug Gun Choice

I was hoping someone might have some thoughts/insight on rifled slug guns. I've been looking to buy a rifled 12 gauge for hunting firearm restriction areas. Been looking at the Ithaca Deerslayer III and like the fact that it comes with the pre-mounted Nikon but don't like the advertised 4-6lb. trigger or the 10lbs. w/o a scope. I'm open to any brand but I don't want to have to have a smith drill/tap it. Anyone have a scoped rifled slug gun that they love and would reccommend?

Just get a inline black powder better than any shot gun anyday plus its cheaper

I have picked up a H&R Ultra Slug hunter. Gota  little Leupold to mount on it. I went with 20 ga and will be sighting in in the next week or two.

My endorsement is for the Marlin Slugmaster.  It is a bolt action rifle chambered for shotgun shells--->so it's technically a shotgun.  They are tough, well built guns--a little heavy.  They mount a scope just like a rifle.  Decent groups, I could get 1.5" at 100 yds using Hornady SSTs.  It had a detachable magazine.  And probably best of all, I found one in good condition for about $200.  I got it when stationed on the east coast and couldn't use a modern rifle.

I have a Mossberg 535, Picked it up for turkey hunting. Found a rifled barrel with scope for it on WalMarts website for $149 . Thats what i'll be using this year.

Mossberg 500 20g. cantilevered scope mount rifled barrel.  No need for the extra weight of a 12g in a rifled slug/sabot gun, plus the slugs are even more expensive for the 12.  I have shot three of my last four deer with my wife's gun, only one ran more than 10 yards.

If you want the most accurate one, get a cantlivered mount or one that has the barrel pinned to the receiver.

Which, IMHO, is absolutely nuts!   If you can shoot them with a .45 cal muzzleloader...?  Friggin' morons!

I have two 870s with rifled barrels: one is a 20 gauge, and one is a 12 gauge. Both have cantilevered barrels with Nikon scopes.  The 20 is a real gem, and the only way to go if you don't ever plan to hunt elk.  Of course,that's exactly what I did: bought a 20 gauge to hunt deer, and then the next year I drew an elk permit in a firearm restricted area so I had to buy the 12.

For some reason the 20 gauge shot extremely well right out of the box, but the 12 gauge took a lot of work.  I put a new barrel on the 12.   I had the triggers worked over and now are a crisp 2 3/4 pounds. They will both shoot inside 2" at 100 yards.  Just a bit of warning: the 12 gauges can kick like an ornery mule.

Every time I go into Cabelas I check out the Bargain Basement or whatever they call it. There are always slug barrels for either Rem 870 or Mossberg 835 in there at a discounted price. Just get yourself a barrel and you can interchange barrels on a shotgun that you already have.

I actually just got my H&R back from the shop this week. I've mounted a 2x7 Leupold shotgun scope on it. Looks exactly like the picture above. I'll be sighting it in this weekend.
