I had thought about trying these Kenetrek boots that Garth pushes, but haven't yet.  At $400 bucks or whatever they are.    :o

I thought about upgrading to the alaskan by meindl . I really like the boot though. I wonder what it would cost to have somebody work on them, make them quiet.

Is it the heel that' squeaking, or the sole? I had a pair of Danners that did the same thing, soaked the rubber in gas for aprox. an hour. The boots never made another noise. If it's the leather, soak them in water and then put them on till they dry. No more noise.

Hope it helps

I wouldn't hesitate on the Kenetrek's, I picked up a pair and Wow they are well built and the support is second to none.

PS you can pick up a pair in Longview at 3 rivers archery for $365.00.

I have the Alaskan Hunters. Great boot I love the ankle support. I couldn't roll an ankle if I tried. Mine sqeaked some. On wet concrete the sole will but when out in the mud and what not it's the leather that does the sqeaking.

I can't reiterate enough that you should always take of your boots. Any new pair of boots I may wear for  a a couple of hours. After that they get oiled to break them in. Hubbards, SnoSeal, or Neatsfoot oil from your local horse tack shop. I have been using Hubbards on mine. First you need to put about 2 or 3 good trips on them and or about 3 days of use. This will break them in fairly well. During this time oil liberally. I would go as far as to oil each trip. Not to mention the oiling will make the leather last longer. Also buy gel insoles. They make them more comfy. The miendels are made of good quality leather that will take any oil or wax nicely.

It's all about the break in and oiling. Back in the day they didn't have goretex lining to keep water out so they had to oil their boots to get them to shed any amount of rain and also made them last longer too. Just because the new fancy stuff we have today sheds rain doesn't mean they shouldn't be oiled.

I talked to Cabelas about the squeak and they said that it's the tongue and something about how the leather folds/binds in there.  If you grease the crap out of the whole tongue area it will almost completely eliminate the noise.

My question is, if they know what causes it why don't they fix it?  :dunno:
